Not every live-action adaptation of a manga is good; most of them lose their charm in the adaptation process. However, amongst these, Kodoku No Gourmet stands at the top as the an exception.
Kodoku No Gourmet is a manga series that has been super popular ever since its inception back in 1994. Given that currently, 1.5 million copies are in circulation worldwide, it’s safe to say its popularity has not died down even after almost three decades.
Despite its popularity, the series got a live-action adaptation in 2012 rather than an anime. Contrary to belief, the live-action TV series was very well received.
Kodoku No Gourmet’s Season 9 is set to premiere in July every Friday on TV Tokyo Network.
[Starting in July] Season 9 of “Gourmet of Solitude” starring Yutaka Matsushige will be broadcast!

In S9, we will delve further into “single meals”, mainly in small shops such as family-owned restaurants. Matsushige stated his determination that “‘Gourmet of loneliness’ is with the people of the restaurant,” and vowed to finish the race.

The new season will focus on exquisite gourmet food in the form of single meals. Small family-owned restaurants will be mainly portrayed, in addition to the mystery shop that was covered in the past.
Though the manga received an original net animation in 2017, the response was nothing compared to what the TV series has received.
While the manga series concluded its run in 2015, the live-action show has taken on a life of its own. The sole main actor, Yutaka Matsushige has become a fan favorite. He has truly characterized Goro Inogashira into someone real.
It seems that the story’s focus on the human experience of enjoying a meal made it more suitable for a live-action performance by an actor rather than an anime.
Surely the upcoming season will satisfy our metaphoric hunger since most of us can’t eat out yet. 🙁
About Kodoku no Gourmet
Kodoku no Gourmet is a Japanese cuisine seinen manga series written by Masayuki Qusumi and illustrated by Jiro Taniguchi.
It has been adapted into a Japanese television drama series and a Chinese web series. A 10-episode original net animation adaptation premiered on the Production I.G’s Tate Anime app on November 29, 2017.
This manga simply describes how Gorou Inogashira, the main character, chooses and takes a meal. Gorou likes to eat at cheap restaurants and no trivia on cuisine is given.
The authors are trying to depict the essentials of the act of “eating” by Gorou’s monologue, which comprises most of the lines of this manga.
