In an interesting turn of events, it seems like the upcoming Predator movie could premiere exclusively on Hulu. The ongoing legal proceedings for the franchise rights have let slip that Hulu will have distribution rights of Predator 5.
According to the Alien and Predator-themed news site AvP Galaxy, it seems like the next Predator film will be released exclusively on Hulu.
The site claims that, during legal discussions regarding the rights to the Predator franchise, it revealed that Hulu would distribute the upcoming film. This info was unearthed as a result of a legal dispute the writers of the original film are facing to retain the rights to the franchise.
More specifically, while arguing for the writers to maintain ownership of their intellectual property, lawyer Marc Toberoff of Toberoff & Associates indicated Hulu would distribute the film.
Seeing as how none of this has been confirmed by Disney, this info should be taken with a grain of salt, mainly since the company can always change its mind later.
Last November, Predator fans were surprised to learn that a fifth film in the franchise was moving forward with 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg.
The movie being distributed by Hulu would mean it won’t make It to the big screen, leaving the fans of the popular franchise disappointed. However, given that the production is relatively early, a lot can change in the coming months.
Interestingly, it sounds like the plan for the upcoming sequel was to borrow a page from Trachtenberg’s Cloverfield playbook to keep as much of the film a mystery as possible.
It’s most likely to be like how The Cloverfield Paradox landed on Netflix just hours after its first trailer debuted. The plan all along was to develop and shoot a new Predator and secretly unveil it to audiences who weren’t expecting it.
The next Predator film, which is currently shooting under Skulls’ working title, will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Unlike previous films, this one will reportedly take place in the past.
It’s no secret that Disney is still struggling to stack its streaming platforms with original content. If last year’s Disney Investor Day taught us anything, though, it’s that the best is yet to come for Disney+ and Hulu, and it will be interesting to see what’s there in store for us.
About Predator
