Original Narrator from ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Returns for Live-action Show

Guess who’s back in the much anticipated live-action revival of The Powerpuff Girls—voice artist Tom Kenny, who played the Narrator in the original!

Aptly named Powerpuff, the show follows what were tiny but mighty kid superheroes in the original into their young adulthood. They now resent dedicating their childhood to fighting crime and are taking their lives back.

The original saga centered on Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, who were all blessed with superpowers.

As three kindergarteners, they protected Townsville under the tutelage of their father and creator, Professor Utonium. The show ran for six seasons, garnering several awards—including six Emmys.

Despite concluding in 2005, the show’s legacy has lived on via feature films and special episodes. Powerpuff Girls also spawned a variety of spinoff media, including an anime series, comic books, and video games.

In its latest live-action adaptation, the show promises a whole new spin on the supergirl trio. However, it does not seem like the CW reboot is changing a lot from the original Cartoon Network version.

Kenny, who is best known as the voice of the iconic cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants, voiced the Narrator and other small parts in the cartoon and also its 2016 animated revival. He is now returning for the live-action version as well.

In other news, Robyn Lively, from Teen Witch and Twin Peaks, will be portraying Sara Bellum, the Mayor’s hot secretary who remained faceless due to her tall stature.

Based on Craig McCracken’s original series, the live-action adaptation will be directed by Maggie Kiley and written and executive produced by Diablo Cody and Heather V. Regnier. The series will be produced by Berlanti Productions in conjunction with Vita Vera Films.

Powerpuff will star Chloe Bennet as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, and Yana Perrault as Buttercup. Donald Faison and Nicholas Podany will also star.
