Poneglyphs and their location have always remained a mystery in the One Piece universe. The plot pieces about the Poneglyphs are scattered across the various islands in One Piece. Here’s an explanation about the Poneglyphs and their locations.
What are Poneglyphs?
The Poneglyphs are enormous, mysterious, unbreakable steles that bear ancient script writing that contains historical information. They can be found all over the world’s islands. These Poneglyphs are rumored to contain the real history of the world.
They were created 800 years ago by a clan of master stonemasons known as the Kouzuki Family in the Wano Country, for the sole purpose of preserving the events of the Void Centaury. These Poneglyphs help in revealing the mysteries of the One Piece universe. The only person left in the world who can read the Poneglyphs is Robin.
What are the Different types of Poneglyphs?
The 30 ancient Poneglyphs found across the world are of three main types- Historical, Instructional and Road Poneglyphs. Historical Poneglyphs are giant cubic steles that reveal parts of the ancient forgotten history and also messages from the people of the past.
Instructional Poneglyphs contain directions regarding the location of the Historical Ponelglyphs. It has dark blue or metallic blue color. Road Poneglyphs exists in four, that when put together lead the way to Laugh Tale, the final Island that is rumored to have a lot of treasures. It comes in a deep red color. Now let’s look into where they can be found.
Historical Poneglyphs
Arabasta
Buried deep within the sands of the Arabasta Kingdom, the Poneglyph lies hidden in the royal tombs beneath the capital. It tells of Pluton, an Ancient Weapon capable of unimaginable destruction. For the people of Arabasta, this stone is more than just a relic; it is a reminder of a powerful history, one that the Nefertari family has protected for generations.
Shandora
High above the clouds, on the floating island of Skypiea, rests the city of Shandora, the ancient land of gold. Deep within the ruins of Shandora, a Poneglyph stands near the legendary Golden Bell. This stone speaks of Poseidon, an Ancient Weapon, but it also whispers faint traces of the Void Century—a forgotten era that the world government desperately seeks to bury.
Fish-Man Island
Beneath the depths of the ocean, in the serene Sea Forest near Fish-Man Island, lies another Historical Poneglyph. This one holds a deeply emotional message—an apology from Joy Boy to the mermaid princess of his time.
It also refers to Poseidon, the same weapon mentioned in Skypiea. The Poneglyph’s presence here ties the Fish-Man Island to the greater mysteries of the world, making it a critical piece of the ancient puzzle.
Ohara
The island of Ohara was once home to the world’s greatest scholars, guardians of knowledge who sought to uncover the truth of the Void Century. In the heart of the Tree of Knowledge, in a massive library of wisdom, stood a Poneglyph.
This stone held ancient secrets, but before its full significance could be revealed, the World Government unleashed a devastating Buster Call, reducing Ohara to rubble. The Poneglyph’s fate remains unknown, lost amidst the ashes of the island.
Road Poneglyphs
Zou
High atop the back of the ancient, living elephant Zunesha, in the heart of the Whale Tree, lies one of the four Road Poneglyphs. Protected by the Mink Tribe, this red stone has been safeguarded for centuries by people who live in harmony with nature and honor ancient traditions.
For the Minks, the Poneglyph is not just a historical artifact, but a legacy they’ve carried for generations. They understand its importance, not just to the world, but to the promise their ancestors made to the Kozuki Clan of Wano.
Fishman Island
25 years ago, it was believed to be located at the Sea Forest, right next to the Historical Poneglyph in the same location. But later, it vanished and it is now considered as a lost treasure. There are various rumors surrounding the poneglyph. It is believed to be in possession of Hinokizu.
Mt Fuji Cavern
This was hidden in a secret cavern at the foot of the submerged Mt Fuji in old Wano. The location is known to Kouzuki family, Pirates, the Beasts, Robin and Trafalgar Law. The Straw Hat Pirates Association has a copy. The Kid Pirates had a copy, but they lost it to the Red Hair Pirates. The Heart Pirates lost their copy after they lost to the Blackbeard Pirates. As of now, the location of the copies is not known.
Whole Cake Island
Charlotte Linlin and her crew possess this Road Poneglyph. It was heavily guarded inside the Room of Treasure during the invasion of Totto Land by Sanji’s retrieval team. The Straw Hats Pirates’ Association possess one of the copies. The Kid Pirates too had their copy, but it was taken by Red Haired Pirates.
