Ever wondered how blood flows throughout your body and keeps you alive? Well, the series “Cells at Work!” tells you exactly how. The manga by Akane Shimizu depicts the works of red blood cells and white blood cells in our body and showcases them in a funny satirical manner.
The “Cells at Work!” manga gained huge popularity with its scientifically comical storyline resulting in an anime adaptation, a light novel, theatrical play, spin-off manga and even a mobile game.
The spin-off manga “Cells at Work! Code Black” by Shigemitsu Harada and Issei Hatsuyoshiya will receive an anime adaptation next year.
Rock Band POLYSICS announced on their official website that they will perform the theme song for the anime “Cells at Work! Code Black” which is set to premiere in January 2021.
The title for the song is “Hashire!” (Run!) and vocalist for the band Kyūso Nekokami, Seiya Yamasaki, will collaborate with POLYSICS to create the masterpiece.
The visual poster for the anime reveals the main character in the spin-off series, a newly hired red blood cell.
The Cells at Work! Code Black anime will feature a new cast and crew for the spin-off series, independent from the original “Cells at Work!!” anime franchise. Season 2 of “Cells at Work!!” is also set to premiere in January 2021.

The story of “Cells at Work! Code Black” will follow a newly hired red blood cell and his friend, a white blood cell who are tasked to keep the body healthy and working like every other worker.
But, the newbie is faced with various challenges as he is overworked, yelled at and straight up made into a work slave to keep the body running.

The manga was launched in June 2018 by Morning and the Weekly D Morning digital manga magazine. An anime adaptation based on the first five volumes premiered on 5th September.
