A Pokémon game was announced nearly four years ago; there’s been no news. A Pokémon game rarely disappears after the announcement. However, nothing meaningful has been mentioned about the game since then.
While fans have been curious about the fate of the game, Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been released and Pokémon Masters EX has launched.
The anime has bid adieu to Ash Ketchum, and old classics have been revisited with Pokémon Stadium coming to Nintendo Switch. However, most haven’t forgotten about the promised title.
The game, promised in May 2019, slipped under the radar for its 2020 release date, which many might attribute to covid. However, the game “Pokémon Sleep” has reignited sparks again as the website pokemonsleep.com redirects to the Pokémon Presents Announcement Page, slated for 27th February 2023.
The Pokémon Presents is set to expand the franchise, giving fans much to look forward to. Highly likely it will introduce DLC for Pokémon: Scarlet and Violet and may even tease the new anime.
Pokémon Sleep is designed to turn “sleeping into entertainment” and is alleged to use Pokémon GO Plus+ to track sleeping patterns. Per a previous data mining effort, the game directly ties to Pokémon Go.
With Pokémon Sleep’s website redirecting to it, it’s fair to assume that there is some new update regarding the app. This is optimistic and may hint that the app is ready for launch.
The partners, Pokémon and Niantic, haven’t released any official statement about the website.
For some realistic fans, the website redirection could be attributed to utilizing an otherwise unused website. Others have suggested that the domain might have been sold. WHOIS data seem to say otherwise, with the domain name not being resold since the purchase in 2019.
Only time will tell what fate awaits the game and that whether Pokémon Sleep will rejuvenate the franchise or return to its sweet slumber. 27th February 2023, 06:00 PST, is when we get to know.
