The first part of the most-awaited Ash vs. Leon is out! Episode 129/episode 39 of Season 25: Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series gives us a great build-up to the final battle.
Dawn and Chloe have come to Galar to support Ash for the Pokemon World Coronation Series Tournament. This shows how big a deal his match with Leon is since this is the first time any of Ash’s former companions has traveled in person to see a major tournament.
Apart from his cheerleaders, the top 8 of the Masters Tournament who Ash scraped a win against are watching him with keen eyes.
Here are all the important things that happened in part one of the Ash vs. Leon battle!
1. All 6 of Leon’s Pokemon Revealed
Leon has a Cinderace, an Inteleon, and a Mr. Rime, in addition to Aegislash, Dragapult, and Charizard.
Ash vs. Leon is going to be a full battle which means we’ll get a 6-v-6 – so we’ll get to see all of these 6 Pokemon in action.
2. Leon Makes a Proposal
Leon proposes that they use any 3 mechanics in the finals. This means Ash can use Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, as well as Dynamax.
While this is good news in general, this means that Leon’s already-killer Pokemon are just about to get stronger.
3. Ash’s Gengar has Cursed Body
Ash’s Gengar activates the Cursed Body ability in the latest episode. Cursed Body is a Generation 5 ability that can disable damaging Z-moves and multi-strike moves.
This is an excellent ability for a Pokemon to have and puts Ash at a great advantage.
Ash made excellent use of this ability where Gengar used Cursed Body against Mr. Rime’s Ice Moves.
Gengar and his Cursed Body was the highlight of the episode. Even though Leon’s Inteleon was amazing, Gengar stole the show.
4. Ash’s Gengar Lost
Ash’s Gengar, despite his Cursed Body, lost in the end to Mr. Rime.
5. Leon’s Dracopult takes 3 of Ash’s Pokemon
Ash has to call Dragonite, Dracovish, and Lucario to take on Leon’s Dracopult.
The upcoming episode will see Mega Lucario vs. Dracopult!
6. Sirfetch’d Will Fight Mr. Rime
In the snippet for the next episode, we see that Ash’s Sirfetch’d will go up against the powerful Mr. Rime – and there’s a good chance he wins!
7. Ash’s Greninja Won’t Return
The “Torrent” from the episode title, contrary to what many assumed, does not refer to Ash’s Greninja.
Firstly, Ash’s Greninja’s ability is Battle Bond, not Torrent. And second, from what we saw in the episode and the previews for the next one, it doesn’t look like Greninja will be in the picture.
8. Pikachu vs. Charizard is Happening
Everything points to the fact that Ash’s Pikachu is going to fight Leon’s Charizard in the finale.
Neither of the two have fought yet as of JN129, and what with multiple tactics allowed, we’re getting a Pikachu with Z-move and G-max Charizard for the final battle.
9. About Pokémon
Pokémon was first released in 1996 and is set up in a world where humans catch monsters and store them in pocket-sized poke-balls.
They are creatures with an affinity to certain elements and some superhuman abilities related to that element.
Revolving around a teenage boy Ash Ketchum, Pokémon takes us through his journey to becoming the most accomplished Pokémon trainer the world has ever seen.
