Pokemon Company Donates 50 Mil Yen for Earthquake Relief

The Pokémon Company is donating 50 million yen (approximately US$346,000) to the Noto Peninsula earthquake relief fund.

Other organizations are also coming forward to donate relief funds.

While the world was celebrating the New Year, Japan was hit by another large-scale earthquake. The magnitude of this earthquake was around 7.6 and triggered waves of about 1 meter along Japan’s west coast and neighboring South Korea.

The earthquake knocked out power to tens of thousands of homes and prompted residents in some coastal areas to flee to higher ground. And in this dire situation, the Pokemon Company came forward to help people.

The Pokémon Company revealed that it is donating 50 million yen (approximately US$346,000) to the Japanese Red Cross Society and other aid organizations, aiming to assist individuals and contribute to recovering regions impacted by the Noto Peninsula earthquake on January 1.

In addition, the Pokémon With You Foundation will continue to support children affected by the earthquake through activities. The disaster initiative started in 2011 to help children following the 2011 Tohoku earthquake.

The public broadcaster NHK is reporting that 94 people have been confirmed dead, including 55 in Wajima. Rescue efforts are still ongoing. So, the help provided by the company is much needed and appreciated.

Additionally, other companies are making similar efforts to make a difference. The talent agency SMILE-UP (formerly Johnny & Associates) donated 50 million yen to the earthquake relief effort. The agency also makes donation boxes available at events and concerts for its talents.

Cover Corporation (Hololive) also announced that it has donated 5 million yen (about US$34,570) toward earthquake relief efforts. Let’s hope for the wellbeing of all the citizens and for more companies to come forward to help them.
