A new trial mission has arrived, and Go is excited to complete it. The task is to reach the goal using ingenuity and imagination, and there are three missions to choose from. Go decides to catch a wild Kingdra, which is a water/ dragon type Pokemon. It lives in the extreme depths of the mostly uninhabited ocean.

Kingdra can also create whirlpools by yawning, and when it meets with a Kairyu, a fierce battle ensues. The most common method to capture one is having a Seadra hold a dragon scale and trade it for evolution. After learning about the difficult task, Go is a little shaken up, but Satoshi reminds him that he’s an expert at catching Pokemon.

Go, and Satoshi soon leave for the sea near Hoenn’s Kaina City. Upon reaching the beach, the two boys set off on their Tamanta and Dewgong, searching for Kingdra. On their way down, they spot many aquatic Pokemon like Lovecus but cannot find Kingdra or Seadra. They decide to dive deeper into a lonely part of the sea.

After failing multiple times, they spot the ship of Genji, a member of the Hoenn Elite Four. Go explains to him how they were looking for a Kingdra, and Genji tells them that he spotted one when he was captured in a whirlpool.

The two boys discuss that they need to dive deeper to find Kingdra, and Genji offers them his diving suits on the condition that they’ll help him hunt for treasure. They agree, and by sunset, Genji discovers a submarine shaped like a Kingdra in a deep trench. He takes some pictures but decides to head towards the surface as it is getting too late.

Satoshi and Go decide to explore the trench the next day, searching for the Kingdra and the treasure. They spot the submarine and try to get closer, but the strong currents make it difficult for them.

Go spots a Seadra but scares it away. He also finds a treasure chest that reveals a hidden dragon scale. He remembers how the dragon scale will make it evolve to Kingdra. Just then, a scared Seadra comes rushing back and shields itself from a Samehada. Go captures the Samehada and gives the scale to Seadra.

Seadra leads Go and Satoshi to a cave where they finally find Kingdra. After a brief battle, Go eventually manages to capture the Kingdra and gets another token.

Elsewhere, Asahi and Tsurugi come face to face with the legendary Pokemon, Regirock.
