We got word of the Tokyo Game Show schedule reveal yesterday, and now Sony has announced a 40-minute Playstation Showcase on September 9th. The event will give us “a look into the future of PS5” and “updates from PlayStation Studios” that are planning on releasing games this year and later on as well.
Developers from both first and third-party studios are going to be present to discuss their projects, stated a blog uploaded on the PlayStation Blog. This Showcase is going to be PlayStation’s first one in nearly a year; last year, during the same event, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 5.
Sony has already been managing expectations on the next-gen virtual reality front; we are not going to be anything regarding that during this event.
Sony has not provided much information on what we’re going to get to see during the Showcase, but speculation has already begun. It’s very likely that we’ll be getting an update on Horizon Forbidden West and the next God Of War game.
Both of these are first-party studios, and both of these games have been delayed, so it would make sense to appease the fans with some footage.
The event is planned for September 9th, Thursday, and will kick off at 1 p.m. PDT/4 p.m. EDT. The event will be broadcast on YouTube and Twitch.
Ahead of the previous State of Play events, Sony had released a list of the games that were not going to be included during that Showcase. No such note has been made for this event. Gran Turismo 7 was delayed till 2022 as well, and we may get to see a peek into its development.
PlayStation 5 users have also been waiting for updates regarding two massive games from Square Enix: Final Fantasy 16 and Forspoken. Let’s hope that some of the 40 minutes of this event are going to go to these two games as well.
