While the first bit of information was a bit of a let-down for Demon Slayer fans, we now know playable demons will be added to the game after its launch.
When the game was first announced, the fact that Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will cover the events of the first season as well as the fantastic Demon Slayer: Mugen Train movie, got fans hyped.
While many were happy that they would get to fight as their favorite slayer – Tanjiro, Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Nezuko – many were disappointed that they would not be able to play as the antagonists, the demons themselves.
But, a recent tweet from popular leaker PS360HD2 has revealed that the game will have playable demons – members of the Twelve Kizuki, Rui, and Akaza. These demons will be added to the game in the way of a free DLC after its launch.
Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will feature a solo single-player mode, as well as a versus mode where you can square off against friends with your favorite character. The game will also support both local and online multiplayer.
Demon Slayer has been in the news a lot lately, and not always for the best reasons. The good news is that Gung Ho Entertainment recently announced a collab between Ninjala and Demon Slayer. The bad news is that Ufotable, the studio behind the anime, and its founder Hikaru Kondo have been recently indicted for tax evasion. It was reported that Kondo hid approximately $4 million in his home.
Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles is slated for release in Japan on Thursday, October 14th, 2021. The global launch by Sega is scheduled for Friday, October 15th, 2021.
The game is currently open for pre-order and is priced at $59.99 for the standard edition and $69.99 for the deluxe edition. The deluxe edition will come with 4 character unlock keys, 3 in-game costumes, a set of 12 PSN avatars, thousands of Slayer points, and a custom theme for the PS4.

Developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Sega, Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is an action game that, much like the anime, follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado in becoming a demon slayer to help cure his human-turned-demon sister, Nezuko Kamado.
The brother-sister duo shed the tragic events of their family’s murder and step into the world of demons and demon slayers. Their unique situation and their inclusion in the demon slayer politics send ripples within the community.
The game will offer two modes:
- A Solo Mode wherein players can pursue the anime’s plot and decapitate demons while playing as Tanjiro.
- A Versus Mode will also be packed by the game where characters from the anime like Tanjiro, Giyu, Rengoku, etc., can be pitched against one another in a gruesome 1 vs. 1 setting.
