Perry Mason will be back to his lawyer gig at the beginning of 2023, as confirmed by HBO, who shared the first trailer for season 2. The trailer teased a new case, with a small time-jump, for Mason to solve and revealed at the end that season 2 will premiere on the streaming platform on March 6, 2023.
The period crime-drama followed Mason’s rise from a lowly private investigator to one of LA’s most ferocious lawyers. Now he’ll return to our screens in 1933, months after the Dodson case, with a new mystery, characters old and new, and a whole new level of drama and suspense.
HBO released the first teaser trailer for season 2 of the TV series with a confirmed release date.
The official synopsis for season 2 reads as follows: Months after the Dodson case ended, the scion of a powerful oil family was brutally murdered. When the DA goes to the city’s Hoovervilles to pinpoint the most obvious suspects, Perry, Della, and Paul find themselves at the center of a case that will uncover far-reaching conspiracies and force them to reckon with what it truly means to be guilty.
The trailer does pinpoint the difference between truth and fantasy and how the construct of the justice system and its whole purpose is simply an “illusion.” This case seems right up Mason’s alley, as Juliet Rylance’s Della points out, “guilty or not, everyone deserves a defense.” Mason’s known to pick the cases no one else dares to take and see them to their completion, no matter the results.
The second season sees a change of showrunners as the duo of Jones-Fitzgerald departs to make way for Jack Amiel and Michael Begler.
Returning cast members include Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, Juliet Rylance, Chris Chalk, Shea Whigham, Eric Lange, Justin Kirk, and Diarra Kilpatrick. New cast additions include Katherine Waterston, Wallace Langham, Paul Raci, Jen Tullock, Mark O’Brien, Sean Astin, and Tommy Dewey.
Apart from the official synopsis and what the new trailer has revealed, scarce details are available for season 2. But we’re sure Mason and his enigmatic ways will surely keep us hooked once it premieres on HBO on March 6, 2023.
About Perry Mason (2020)
Perry Mason is an American period drama television series based on the character of the same name created by Erle Stanley Gardner. It focuses on the origin story of famed defense lawyer Perry Mason. The series was developed and written by Rolin Jones and Ron Fitzgerald and stars Matthew Rhys in the title role.
Long before Perry Mason became the legendary lawyer that he was, he was a PTSD-ridden war vet struggling to find his place in the world. His first test as a lawyer was the gruesome killing of a child who was kidnapped and returned with his eyes sewn open. His next case is to reveal the true killer of Brooks McCutcheon.
