It’s A Wrap! Percy Jackson and the Olympians Finishes Filming

We’re going to be back at Camp Half-Blood soon as Percy Jackson and the Olympians have officially wrapped up filming for its debut season.

Based on Rick Riordan’s teen-fantasy series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians will follow the adventures of Percy, Annabeth and Grover as they take up a dangerous mission to restore order in the world.

The first season will adapt the first book in the five-book series, titled “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”. In this book, Percy discovers that he is the son of the sea god, Poseidon, visits Camp Half-Blood, and goes on a mission to bring back Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt.

Rick Riordan hinted back in November that the series had almost finished filming and now, his wife Becky Riordan has confirmed on Twitter that production for the series is finally over. Here’s the tweet in question –

The team will now focus on editing and VFX to get the series ready for release as soon as possible. It will surely take some time until it’s ready for us to finally see it, but things have been going quite well as of now.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians seems to have fixed several mistakes that we’ve seen in the movies starring Logan Lerman. The first among these is the age of the actors. Riordan chose age-appropriate actors to play the roles of Percy, Annabeth and Grover, instead of going for popular names or older teenagers.

Moreover, Rick Riordan himself has been an integral part of the team, which will ensure that the adaptation is true to its source material. The first season will only adapt the first book in Riordan’s series, but the writer has been teasing that the show will soon be renewed for another season. If it is so, then season 1 can build towards a larger narrative and establish some recurring characters just like in the books.

Ideally, the series should have five seasons to adapt all five books in the series. If the makers are confident about renewal by Disney+, they can surely drop cliffhangers or hints about subsequent seasons.

Now that we know that season 1 has wrapped up filming, we can expect the series to drop on Disney+ anytime in late 2023 or early 2024. However, late 2023 seems to be a good time for release, as the show is already ahead of its schedule. Walter Scobell, who plays Percy in the series, previously hinted that the series could arrive as soon as December 2023, so let’s hope he turns out to be right.

No official release date has been confirmed by Disney+ or Riordan yet, but considering how things are going, we can expect an announcement very soon.
