Tommy Shelby Returns to Birmingham in Peaky Blinders Teaser

The tall, handsome man in a dusty black coat returns to Birmingham one last time.

The first official teaser for Peaky Blinders was released a few hours ago, and director Anthony Byrne has teased that the series is returning “sooner than you think.”

The official Peaky Blinders account posted the clip, which gives us a first look at actor Cillian Murphy as Thomas Shelby in his usual all-black suit and overcoat with the gang’s signature flat cap.

The clip doesn’t give away anything as it’s just Shelby walking down an empty street with a large bag in his hand. The screen then cuts off to reveal the series’ title and text announcing its “Early 2022” release.

However, it is interesting to note that this isn’t just any random street Tommy is walking on. It looks a lot like the streets of his old neighborhood in Birmingham, marking the gangster’s return to where it all began—a fitting way to end the series.

Despite the clip being just about 10 seconds long, it’s still something that fans of the series can make do with before a full-length trailer is released. If Season 6 returns in January-February, then the trailer can be expected to drop by the end of this year.

Director Anthony Byrne posted the same clip with the caption, “We’re coming for you sooner than you think. By order of…” which makes the possibility of a release before the end of February stronger.

For viewers in the UK, the series will first air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. However, it is not yet known if the series will follow the previous season’s schedule by dropping it on Netflix a month after it finished airing on BBC.

Now, all we can do is wait for the full-length trailer, which will surely bring back a lot of familiar faces, whether it be friends or foes. It is still unknown how the series will honor the late Helen McCrory after the actress’ untimely passing in April 2021.

With the upcoming season marking the end of one of the recent times’ absolute masterpieces, the story of the Peaky Blinders will wrap up with one last story via a feature film.

About Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders is a British period crime drama television series created by Steven Knight. Set in Birmingham, England, the series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family and their leader Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) in the direct aftermath of the First World War.

The fictional family is loosely based on a real urban youth gang of the same name, active in the city from the 1890s to the early 20th century. It stars Cillian Murphy, Sam Claflin, Aidan Gillen, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, and Tom Hardy

Netflix, under a deal with Weinstein Company and Endemol, acquired the rights to release the show in the United States and around the world. In January 2021, it was announced that the sixth series would be the last, followed by a spin-off film. The final series was broadcast in 2022.
