Peaky Blinders S6: Premiere and Netflix Release Date

Peaky Blinders’ American fans have been humbled after realizing that the S6 release date did not apply to them. Yup, no matter how many times you refresh Netflix, you won’t see the new season on it.

This is because it will first air exclusively in the UK, and only post the season completion will it be available on Netflix.

Peaky Blinders season 6 began airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on February 27. No official date has been announced yet, but it is expected to release on Netflix for American viewers in April 2022 after it has finished airing in the UK.

I bet you have more questions on why an additional six week-sentence has been added to your long, long wait. While this is going to be no comfort, let me explain why Peaky Blinders always has a delayed Netflix release.

Why is Peaky Blinders S6 not yet on Netflix?

Peaky Blinders season 6 has started airing on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, February 27 onwards.

If you thought Peaky Blinders was a Netflix original, you are not alone in your misconception (and that’s completely fine!) I saw many posts online about fans being totally gobsmacked that the show was a BBC production that won’t air its episodes immediately on Netflix.

Call it exclusivity or what you will, but BBC chooses to air one episode each week and hands over distribution to Netflix USA only after the season is completed. (Yup, six whole weeks of additional waiting).

I personally believe that the show would’ve benefitted from a simultaneous Netflix release — especially since season 6 is the most anticipated of them all. But it is also possible that Netflix is not ready to cough up the money required for a simultaneous release deal.

Going from its previous track record we can make a few deductions on when it will appear on the streamer.

Although no official announcements have been made, it is likely that Peaky Blinders season 6 will be released on Netflix in April 2022 at the earliest.

(Want another punch to your gut? Due to licensing issues, most of the show’s original soundtrack does not make it to the Netflix version either.)

So viewers who do not want to succumb to using a VPN will have to wait six weeks before they can watch Peaky Blinders S6.

It’s going to be an agonizing wait, considering how the online sphere will be full of spoilers. I suggest muting a few Peaky Blinders keywords if you’re going to wait for its Netflix release.

Some of the immediate plotlines you can expect in the final season is the aftermath of Tommy’s failed assassination attempt on Sir Oswald Mosely, a deeper exploration into Gina Gray’s story and last, but not least, dealing with Polly’s absence on screen.

Here’s to watching Peaky Blinders S6 sooner than later!

About Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders is a British period crime drama television series created by Steven Knight. Set in Birmingham, England, the series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family and their leader Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy) in the direct aftermath of the First World War.

The fictional family is loosely based on a real urban youth gang of the same name, active in the city from the 1890s to the early 20th century. It stars Cillian Murphy, Sam Claflin, Aidan Gillen, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Finn Cole, and Tom Hardy

Netflix, under a deal with Weinstein Company and Endemol, acquired the rights to release the show in the United States and around the world. In January 2021, it was announced that the sixth series would be the last, followed by a spin-off film. The final series was broadcast in 2022.
