James Gunn’s self-professed favourite show Peacemaker has finally wrapped shooting. The spinoff series set to air in January 2022 on HBO Max, originated from John Cena’s character of the same name from the upcoming movie The Suicide Squad.
Gunn usually keeps us all updated via his Twitter and that’s where we get the production’s final filming notice. In the tweet, he talks about how he is grateful to have had his “vague pitch” accepted at HBO. An odd year down the line, filming for Peacemaker is finally complete. He thanks the cast and crew for all their hard work.
A small recap: Peacemaker is a show about Christopher Smith and his alter ego Peacemaker, a “superhero” (a plain douchebag in everyone’s opinion!) who is so devoted to maintaining peace, that he even succumbs to raw violence.
Season 1 will have eight episodes, which Gunn discloses took a whooping 131 days to shoot. He even responds to a fan clarifying that Peacemaker indeed took longer to film than other eight-episode shows (which would approximately take two months or so). But given our on-going situation of a pandemic, we doubt anyone is going to point fingers at lengthy filming durations.
Gunn has written all eight episodes and sits as director for five of them. Apart from Cena, we know that Steve Agee will be playing John Economos, a warden at Belle Reve penitentiary. He’s a figure under the stronghold of Amanda Waller, both whom we’ve seen on screen previously.
Completing the Peacemaker universe will be Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Pattrick as Auggie Smith, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, and last but not the least, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, or we better know him, Vigilante.
And of course, we cannot forget Gunn’s “favourite cast member,” beloved dog Penny:
The filming wrap comes just in time for Peacemaker’s scheduled premier in January 2022. Date is yet unknown, but we don’t think we’ll have to wait long for this one!
