As Fast & Furious 9 (or simply known as F9) gears up to hit the US theatres, Vin Diesel who plays Dominic “Dom” Toretto reflects on the brotherhood that this franchise has created – none, as precious as his kinship with the late Paul Walker.
Vin Diesel sits down with E! News during promotion for the new Fast & Furious movie. He answers several questions, including whether or not Paul Walker’s daughter will join the franchise.
Paul Walker’s demise in 2013 had created waves of devastation for the crew and fans. Production was halted as everyone was in mourning, adding to which major filming decisions also needed to be made. Fortunately, the studios found an apt way of honoring Walker as well as his on-screen character Brian O’Conner in the film’s universe.
“On a personal level, we started this franchise together. Alongside us starting the franchise, we started a brotherhood. Our brotherhood will outlast the franchise.”
Vin Diesel
Would honoring this legacy extend to having Paul Walker’s daughter join the franchise as well?
Diesel is hesitant to give an outright affirmation about 22-year-old Meadow Rain Walker, who is also his godchild, joining the cast. Walker is a model by profession and hasn’t appeared on film yet. Diesel leaves open the possibility of having her on board for Fast & Furious 10.
“I would not count anything out. Let me just—without giving you all of the secrets of Fast 10. Let’s just say nothing’s ruled out.”
Vin Diesel
As the Fast & Furious universe often relies on the theme of family, it may be not far-fetched to assume that Meadow Rain Walker could join in a character linked to Brian O’Conner and Mia Toretto.
This will not be the first time having Walker’s family on set. Previously, the crew was joined by Paul Walker’s brothers who helped complete the remaining scenes of Furious 7 in his stead.
The star-studded cast of Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Charlize Theron, and Helen Mirren are back for the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise.
A delightful introduction is that of pro wrestler John Cena playing Jakob Toretto, Dom and Mia Toretto’s younger brother.
F9 will be out in theatres on June 25, 2021.
