Paul Bettany Says Talking about Mephisto Could Lead to His Firing

As WandaVision enters its final stretch, more details about its true story are getting revealed, but Paul Bettany cannot talk about Mephisto, because it can get him fired.

The Marvel monster has long been gossiped to appear in the sitcom, with numerous hints to the devil being peppered throughout the show. However, there’s no substantial evidence that he will indeed be involved.

Marvel Studios’ super popular Disney+ series merely has a couple of episodes remaining this season, and more relevant details are constantly coming up regarding what’s happening in Westview. Nonetheless, many questions about the show’s all-around portrayal, especially when it comes to how the Maximoff Anomaly began, still lay unanswered.

There have been assumptions floating around, that while Wanda is primarily in control in WandaVision, there’s a strange being hiding in the shadows who is secretly manipulating her to keep living this fantasy life. Mephisto pulling the strings is one of the most popular theories being talked about, and Bettany’s latest remarks may be a clue to that being true.

While speaking with Esquire to promote WandaVision, Bettany has talked a lot about the show. He said,

“The [head] writer, Jac Schaeffer, she’s a bonafide genius. I think it was really fun for her to see all of the fan reactions and fan theories, and some of them are eerily accurate. But this one [theory] that mentions Mephisto? I can’t speak to it right now, because I’m worried about getting fired.”

Although Bettany is sheepish when talking about Mephisto, this doesn’t inescapably ensure that the Marvel devil will be in WandaVision. Bettany has been in the MCU for far too long. He has somehow mastered the trick to promote Marvel projects without jeopardizing anything. And so, it’s possible that he is claiming that talking about the villain could cause his dismissal so that he could divert the audience from other prospects in the Disney+ show.

What’s been fun with WandaVision‘s storytelling layout is that it has kept spectators immersed for weeks. Unlike Netflix’s spree model, curiosity in the project is stretched out, creating it more impactful. While it was frustrating originally, considering that its first two episodes were far different from the MCU, once the plot picked up at the end of episode 3, people were hooked.

Now that it only has a few episodes left, some might find it best to watch everything reveal on the screen rather than trying to predict what’s going to happen.
