Paramount Plus aims to premiere one original movie each week starting from 2022. It is getting on par with Netflix, Disney+, and other streaming platforms with this new proposal.
On a ViacomCBS first-quarter earnings conference call, first covered by The Hollywood Reporter, CEO Bob Bakish announced:
“Turning to movies where we are poised to dramatically enhance the scale of our offering”

With this, it intends to follow in other services’ footsteps which promote themselves by directly sending new movies straight to streaming.
Paramount Plus was initially named as CBS All Access, but underwent a rebranding on March 4, 2021. According to statistical data, it has a subscriber count of 36 million (considering viewers across Showtime and BET Plus too).
And to cater to such a large audience, it has launched a campaign for ‘Mountain of Movies’, by adding 1000 titles in June. And thereafter, by July, we can expect a grand total of 2500 movies to go live on the streamer.
The movies will range from blockbusters, made-for-Paramount+ films from the Paramount Players banner, and other studio operations such as Nickelodeon.
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run‘s success on the platform could have prompted Paramount+ to undertake such a scheme.
The movie Infinite, which was delayed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic in 2020, is now set for release this June straight to Paramount+. New planned additions include John Krasinki’s much-anticipated A Quiet Place II, just five days after its theatrical release.
“We will follow that with the Paw Patrol movie—a treat for families eagerly awaiting a feature-length version of the most popular pre-school characters in the world. In addition, new original movies like Paranormal Activity, and The In-Between will premiere on Paramount+ by the end of ’21.”

We can expect hits like The Avengers and Skyfall to be available soon enough. Many Paramount films like Mission: Impossible –Ghost Protocol, Rocketman, Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. are just awaiting their kick-off on the acclaimed OTT platform.
Right now, Paramount Plus extends its services to users in the US, Canada, Latin America and Nordic countries. It has an upcoming launch in Australia.
So, movie freaks, there you go! Grab a seat, a bag of popcorn, and prepare to tune in to a new movie every weekend at Paramount+.
