The fourth reboot in the Kelvin Timeline, with the working title of Star Trek 4, has now been removed from Paramount’s upcoming film list. But why the sudden change when the film was to come out in late 2023?
Well, that’s because Matt Shakman, recently known for his work in MCU’s WandaVision, pulled out of the Star Trek project a month ago. The search for a new director was on, but the prospect of a 2023 release wasn’t possible in the case.
Thus, according to Variety’s report, Paramount has removed the film from its list of upcoming projects.
The movie, which was to see the return of the original cast members, including Chris Pine, Quentin Tarantino, Karl Urban, and more, was set to release in December 2023.
But this removal was inevitable after Matt Shakman pulled out due to scheduling discrepancies with his clashing work schedule with MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot.
However, Matt Shakman’s exit as the film’s director was not the only thing hindering its release.
Though excited to return, Pine and Urban claimed to have still not received a script for the reboot movie. Given that the film was to release in a year, the fact that a script wasn’t ready was concerning.
Other than these hindrances, Pine and the other original cast members had not received any offers to renew their contracts for the franchise’s latest theatrical project.
Now that there is no urgency, as Paramount has pushed the movie to an undetermined future, it is of no consequence. But it was sure to pose a problem with the release window.
Well, the director has abandoned the film and the release has been postponed indefinitely. So, is there any hope for the movie to be revived by Paramount? We cannot be sure, but Paramount has not released any official update for the movie’s outright cancelation.
The Kelvin Timeline may yet get its fourth film, but it will be a while before that happens. Until then, fans must hold on to hope and look out for any new information.
