Secret Headquarters Trailer: Wilson’s Non-Comic Superhero and More

Paramount+ dropped the trailer for its upcoming sci-fi action film Secret Headquarters, where we see Owen Wilson make his non-comic superhero debut in a suit inspired by MCU legend Iron Man.

The film also features star kid Walker Scobell, who recently debuted with Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project and was cast as the titular character in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson.

The film’s premise surrounds a young Charlie Kincaid (Walker Scobell) accidentally unearthing a secret headquarters under his home with his friends, discovering his often absent father’s identity as a superhero.

After learning that his father (Owen Wilson) is a superhero and is currently being hunted down for the alien tech he stumbled upon, Charlie and his friends help him fight the bad guys. Apart from Wilson and Scobell, the film also stars Jesse Williams, Michael Peña, Momona Tamada, Keith L. Williams, Abby James Witherspoon, and Levy Tran.

Owen Wilson, after having already starred as Mobius in the MCU series Loki (2021), has some experience with taking on the role of a superhero. The trailer shows him don on a suit heavily inspired by Robert Downy Jr.’s Iron Man, hinting at possible references and jokes based on the franchise.

The trailer establishes with its opening scene that Charlie (Walker Scobell) is as awkward and clumsy as his father supposedly is. He has a tense relationship with his father, who is often absent for Charlie’s big moments and even in day-to-day life.

When he and his friends discover his father’s secret headquarters under his home by accident, Charlie has a hard time believing that his awkward father is a superhero. They then tap into his stock of strangely powered tech, using the gadgets to have a fun time. Little do they know, their seemingly innocent indulgence is what tips off the villain to his father’s location.

Jesse Williams and Michael Peña play the two agents of the organization hellbent on taking away Charlie’s father and the alien tech that he stumbled upon to further their evil plans. The trailer then shows the kids take on Michael Peña’s seasoned agent, with lots of funny quips thrown in. Owen Wilson’s character comes to the kids’ rescue when things start getting out of hand, complete with an immensely cool suit-up scene.

The trailer then discloses that Owen Wilson’s character was chosen as the “guardian of the planet” by an “alien power source.” This indicates even higher stakes for the newly formed team of one superhero and four kids with alien tech taking on the villains threatening the entire world’s safety.

The trailer ends on an interesting note—the villains too have a powered suit, which is probably better than Wilson’s, as him and Peña indulge in hand-to-hand combat while suited up.

The film will be streaming on Paramount+ from August 12 onwards, and it would be a treat to watch this family comedy mixed in with some superhero action and exciting adventures.
