Pachinko Season 2 Episode 2 Release Date, Speculation & More

Based on the New York Times bestseller of the same name, Pachinko is a masterful sweeping saga chronicling the hopes and dreams of a Korean immigrant family across four generations.

One of Apple TV+’s most overlooked gems, the show delves deeply into themes of generational trauma, survival, and legacy across several decades and divided timelines. Even though it is based on the critically acclaimed book by Min Jin Lee, it takes great pleasure in telling the book’s original tale in fresh, captivating ways.

Pachinko Season 2 has officially arrived on Apple TV+, and unlike most series, there was no two-episode premiere, which left us a little surprised and disappointed. Nonetheless, we are excited to see Sunja back in action, as well as several other characters that this series has spent the first season developing.

The first episode, or chapter 9 of Season 2, helped set the tone for the rest of the season while featuring Sunja in prison, among other things.

Chapter 10 of Pachinko Season 2 Episode 2 will see the family reunited with a loved one, forcing them to face a harsh reality for which viewers must also prepare.

This is not surprising, of course, given that Pachinko’s theme revolves around the problems facing the Baek family. Similar to how Solomon’s story was connected to Sun-ja’s (Min-ha) arrest, Solomon’s response will undoubtedly provide viewers with a glimpse of a comparable circumstance that Sun-ja encountered in her formative years.

Solomon is still figuring out his business and will stop at nothing to get what he wants, so we will definitely see more of him in 1989. In the interim, would Sunja be willing to give Hansu a chance? Even though it is improbable, it will be interesting to see how he affects her life in the upcoming episodes.

Pachinko Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

In Pachinko season 2’s first episode, a train pulls into a station in Osaka in 1945 in the midst of World War II. Han-su is torn between dealing with the Americans or the Soviets for his mineral cache. Sunja confirms that rations are full force, but she has her kimchi cart.

Her sister is looking for pickles, but the situation isn’t looking good. To exacerbate the situation, American planes fly overhead, dropping a bunch of letters—not bombs—from the sky. Threatening to get worse if they don’t speak with the Emperor and stop the war.

The villagers are taught to fight for their defense and to defend one another. Mozasu gets involved in stabbing the straw dummy, and it’s a good method to illustrate the propaganda instilled in children at a young age.

In contrast, Noa begins to lose more faith in the school system. Despite starting school full of confidence and pride in his family, he gradually begins to lose interest and become disillusioned with the world because he was raised in Osaka rather than the center of Korea. His thoughts are wandering because he has been reading Tom Sawyer lately.

One day after class, Noa’s teacher urges him to work hard to escape the slums. Noa declines, waiting for his father and wanting to become a pastor. He receives a book to help with his university application belonging to a Korean named Go Young-Ho. The teacher watches him closely because both are Korean.

Sunja is fortunate to receive money from her brother-in-law, who was conscripted to work in a munitions factory. However, she is running out of kimchi as they have paid him promissory notes. It has been three months since her mother sent her a letter.

Sunja is offered an opportunity to sell rice wine for extra cash despite the risk of serious consequences. She considers it to help her kids, but Kyunghee is skeptical due to the high stakes. Kyunghee eventually agrees, but only if Sunja returns to her every night.

Unfortunately, Sunja is arrested shortly after during a raid at the black market. Although they don’t need to, Kyunghee tries to enlist the officer’s assistance in sorting this out. Sunja is released while the sentence is being read out because the officer there is aware of who she is.

It turns out that Han-su is the one who arranged for Mr. Kim to take her to his office. Do you recall the mineral we first saw in this episode? This is a corrosion-resistant material known as tungsten.

The war can continue because it benefits grenades, missiles, and airplanes. It appears that Han-su is a crucial player in all of this. He clarifies that he has been hiring Mr. Kim to keep an eye on Sunja throughout this ordeal to ensure she is alright.

Han-su issues a dire warning, threatening to destroy the entire city in the event of an American strike. Although we all know this is real, Sunja refuses to accept it.

Solomon’s history with Shiffley follows him to an interview in Tokyo in 1989 as he looks for work. The problem is that it’s complicated because he has a black mark beside his name. He needs investment, but all reject him. Even though Tokyo is home to 11 million people, Solomon remarks that it still feels like a village.

Abe-san is determined to put Solomon out of business and is on the war path. And thus far, it’s effective because he hasn’t been able to raise any money. He decides to put $200 million into his project as he discusses this with Tetsuya over dinner. Why? This is Solomon’s way of giving back to the man who has always looked out for him.

Solomon’s luck finally turns around, and Mozasu and Sun-ja decide to join him and contribute $700,000 to his company. But they also take a mortgage on the Pachinko building to accomplish this. Solomon begins to sense the strain.

That afternoon, Tetsuya calls to let him know that Abe-san has heard about his investment and threatened to subdue him. He’s taking his money out as a result. When a Japanese vendor at the grocery upsets Solomon with a racial comment after screwing up their cake order, Solomon becomes enraged and upset.

Solomon tells Sunja he can no longer do this when they return to the shop. Claiming to be sorry for her, he tears up the investment check while shielding them from the excessive risk. After all of this, Solomon shows up to see Abe, and a confrontation appears to follow.
