As the third season of the Netflix original thriller Ozark hit the small screen recently, fans are already discussing plotlines for the next installment.
The story of Ozark’s Byrde family, which is breaking bad (pun intended) amid its tryst with the world of drugs, death, and crime, has us hooked for the last 3 seasons.
With the third season especially seeing a huge bump in viewership and the cliff-hangers of its last episode proof of the producers’ gushing creative juices, another season has to be on the way.

What we want from season 4?
Guessing from what we already know about the third season, the Byrdes are bound to burrow straight into the business of their criminal masters, the drug cartels of Mexico.
1. A much-needed spine for the Byrdes
In the last episode, the psychopathic drug lord Navarro had his long-time lawyer Helen Pierce’s brains blown out before the Byrdes.
While it is a good survival strategy to keep themselves useful to Navarro, we are now sure no one is ever safe working for him. And we want to finally see the Byrdes flipping off the cartels and making an escape.
2. Why, How and What next of Helen’s murder
Meanwhile, there are many unanswered questions about Helen’s murder. Why was she murdered, and so ruthlessly?
Is her daughter, who knew of her mother’s stint with the drug lord by the end of the season, now unsafe too? Did Helen die because her daughter found out?
3. What happens with Jonah?
Will the youngest Byrde (Skylar Gaertner) and his gun-wielding youthful spirit end up helping the family escape the mud pit they’ve got themselves into?
Otherwise too, we want something more than a kiss from a girl for this sly and skilled 14-year-old.
Or will he challenge his mother and pick up the reigns of the family business. What could be more mortifying than that!
4. Charlotte gets in on the business?
Yes, now that would be even more mortifying. Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) is literally handed the keys to Buddy’s mausoleum, which stores the cartel’s filth, in the final episode of Season 3.
She is definitely on her way to shouldering some more of the Byrde’s criminal responsibilities.
5. Ruth should grow up!
At the end of season 3, Ruth (Julia Garner) realizes that Wendy Byrde had not only gotten her dad killed but also her lover Ben.
While she quits Byrde Enterprises soon after, instead of flying solo, Ruth goes on to join the foxy poppy farm owner Darlene Snell.
Known as the ‘foul-mouthed emotional center of Ozark,’ Ruth needs to grow up and get some more agency in her ways around town.
6. What happens to Mom n Pop Byrde
Marty Byrde (Jadon Bateman) was reduced to his wife’s shadow, even as she grabbed on to more and more power in the family business.
On the other hand, Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) was the real heroine of the third season as she went from being a guilt-ridden accomplice of the family’s misdeeds to running it all with swagger supreme. I mean, the woman goes on to sacrificing her own brother after the latter compromises the drug ring’s secrets!
So, where does this crazy Byrde relationship go from here? Will they go the Walter White way and never recover from the pit of moral compromises?
Or will they join forces towards figuring out the best way forward from what is the worst kind of screw up a family could be in? Season 4 has so much to cater to!
7. Could Ben be alive?
Despite her differences, Wendy always cared for her brother Ben, as he struggled with Bipolar Disorder. However, she ends up ordering him to be killed after he threatens to mess things up for her family.
After having burned his body, Wendy ends up having a breakdown. But since ans took to Reddit to suggest ways in which Ben could still be alive.
One theory is Navarro could have kidnapped Wendy’s brother for future utility. Another was that Marty could have got together with Navarro and had Ben kidnapped to teach his power-hungry wife a lesson.
However, Ben’s death could also come as a stabilizing force for the Byrde family and help them see the end to the path they are on, more clearly.
Ozark Recap
Meanwhile, all three seasons are streaming on Netflix. Here is a quick recap of the plotline to date.
Ozark has at its center the Byrde family, including Marty (Jason Bateman, executive producer and director of some episodes) and Wendy (Laura Linney), and their kids, Charlotte (Sofia Hublitz) and Jonah (Skylar Gaertner).
The family is on a quest to establish a money-laundering enterprise for the Mexican drug cartels in the Ozarks region of Missouri. In a way, the plot is the reverse of Breaking Bad.
A rather modest criminal, Marty gradually changes tune and tries to extricate his family from a complex crime web, only to find himself even more entangled.
In Season 3, the Byrdes get in ever more in-depth with the cartel. At the same time, the FBI comes uncomfortably close to sniffing out the secret of their casino. Long-time ally and local criminal, Ruth has grown even more disillusioned with the Byrdes and cut ties entirely.
While Darlene (Lisa Emery) somehow has won Ruth’s loyalty and that of her cousin, Wyatt.
At the end of the season, Darlene and the Langmores strike a deal with the KC mob, Wendy turns her brother Ben (Tom Pelphrey) into the cartel to be killed, and the Byrdes witness Navarro murder Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer) in front of their eyes.
