Despite Overwatch 2’s numerous problems with game-breaking bugs and matchmaking issues being at the top of the list, the game looks absolutely stunning when compared to its predecessor, the original Overwatch.
A new comparison video uploaded by YouTuber ElAnalistaDeBits showcases how Overwatch 2’s graphics look across its PS4, PS5 and Switch releases. The 12-minute video gives players a nice overview of how the game will look on the PS4, PS5 and the Nintendo Switch.
Even though Overwatch 2 has been review-bombed heavily due to players frustration with the state of the game, it received praise for some of its graphical as well as overall updates to the Overwatch formula.
The game features updated character models from the original games, a complete lighting overhaul, new HUD as well as new shaders which have allowed greater detail in character rendition.
New weather systems such as fog changes, improved cloth, more particles and dynamic weather effects have been introduced in the game, although some people have complained about the implementation of dynamic lighting in the game.
The 12-minute video showcases Overwatch 2’s performance in multiple areas including resolution, shadows, loadtimes and framerate.
The PS5 version of the game includes Balanced, Resolution and Performance mode which gives the console an edge when compared to the PS4 and Switch versions, along with its lightning fast loading times. The PS5 takes 5 seconds to load a map while it takes 14-15 seconds for the PS4 and the Switch versions.
Although being inferior to the PS5 version, the PS4 and the Switch version hold up really well, with the framerate locked at 30fps on the Switch, 60fps on the PS4 while the PS5 offers 120fps when running on Performance mode.
Surprisingly, the Switch version features few to no shadows from objects unlike the PS4 and the PS5 versions. Lighting improvements also seem to be absent from the Switch version. Differences can also be seen between the game’s reflections across various consoles. Nevertheless, whichever console players choose to play on, it’s sure to be a visual treat for them.
