Overwatch 2 has been anything but perfect since its release six months ago. Despite the bugs, it has been a pleasurable ride so far. However, there have been quite some complaints from the community.
As Overwatch 2 enters Season 3’s final stretch, matchmaking has been improved, which was called a “major change”. It was also mentioned in a recent Twitter post that the matchmaking would be more even now.
This would reduce skill gap between the players and will have the least possible Match Making Rating difference. However, the community could be happier, calling for Blizzard to make better changes.
After this, a new blog post by Game Director Aaron Keller mentioned that the “On Fire” feature would see changes, and the progression system and Play of The Game would be revamped.
It has been mentioned in the community across many complaints that the Play of The Game (POTG, famously) is bugged as it has many inconsistencies in-game.
Another feature which complained about is the progression feature in Overwatch 2. It has been problematic. It ends up frustrating the players more often than not.
Keller has confirmed that the developers are currently working on a hero and player progression system that will be much larger than the system already in place.
It was also mentioned that the problem was tackled from different angles:
- Reducing the ability for Damage Heroes to disrupt the enemy backline and target Supports
- Give supports additional tools to deal with the threat
- Exercise some restraint as players were getting used to the new 5v5.
Concerns were also raised regarding the brand-new collaboration of Overwatch 2 with One Punch man. It was mentioned that the Game Director doesn’t see the idea to fruition despite how cool it sounds.
There was also a substantial increase in XP from each map. There’s also internal debate on the resetting of the ranking for the Competitive system.
All these changes have just been named and mentioned with no release date yet. However, as per the director, it is presumed to be later this year.
While the game hasn’t been perfect, constant tweaks, updates, and changes, have kept the game fresh and enjoyable for enthusiasts who hope that the game will eventually get better.
The fact that Blizzard is finally taking action of some measurable proportion is commendable. With the new season just around the corner, Overwatch 2 players are hoping with bated breath that the new updates will make it in time.
This would ensure that the visual and story improvements in the game aren’t wasted just because of technical drawbacks. Players must remain patient and hopeful for new updates.
About Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.
Overwatch 2 was launched as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022.
