Blizzard has made ‘major’ adjustments to Overwatch 2’s matchmaking but players are still not satisfied. When it comes to competitive games, developers have to constantly make adjustments to balance the game properly.
One issue that’s been consistent since launch for Overwatch 2 is the quality of matchmaking. Currently in Season 3, players are wondering if the system is setting up balanced and fair matches. Blizzard has brought a new change to make players enjoy the game better.
Overwatch 2’s Server Engineer Morgan Maddren revealed on Twitter that the dev team has been working to make matches with a narrower spread of MMR. MMR is used by devs to balance matches and rankings. He revealed that due to the change, players may be seeing shorter queue times.
Maddren also said that reducing MMR spread was a bit tricky, especially for players forming groups. But it seems like the stance of the Overwatch 2 community on matchmaking hasn’t really changed after all.
Maddren’s thread on Twitter was met with comments from players who were less than ecstatic about the change. One player claimed that they didn’t notice any significant changes in high-ranking lobbies, something Overwatch 2 has been working on.
Another player commented that even though they’re a casual player, they’re constantly met with GM and diamond players. Players’ dissatisfaction with the adjustment is also noticeable on the official Overwatch 2 subreddit. Many posts can be found complaining about unbalanced matches.
Even though most of the updates are met with criticism, Overwatch 2 developers are still constantly working to make the game better. With Season 3 coming to an end, players can only hope that more significant changes are made in Overwatch 2 Season 4.
Overwatch 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Switch.
