The plethora of issues troubling Overwatch 2 seems never-ending– server issues, technical glitches, design flaws, and more. However, Blizzard is working towards fixing the problems.
Overwatch 2 developers are currently looking into some aspects of the game to guarantee all skill levels are balanced for the entirety of Season 1.
The team shared a blog post talking about the gameplay, hero balancing, and map pool. The post did not address any issues faced by players during the first week.
While the situation is fairly under control now, there are still server issues, account glitches, and in-game purchase errors. Although Blizzard has not talked about how they plan to approach these, maybe the team is silently working to fix these issues.
Overwatch 2 uses a metric of hero win rate to determine a hero’s popularity in the game. If a hero’s win rate rises too much unexpectedly or drops below 45%-55%, Blizzard will make changes accordingly.
Since the game has just started, all heroes are stable as of now, comfortable within their range. However, Zarya is often overpowered in Total Mayhem. So, the developers will introduce a mode-specific change for her in the next patch update scheduled for October 25.
D.Va is a popular pick among players compared to the rest of the tank roster. However, during the beta run and the Overwatch League Summer Showdown, Junker Queen was described as a “must-pick” tank. After a nerf implementation, her popularity declined to match the average.
Similarly, Kiriko’s pick rate boosted to 75% initially but soon after dropped down to a safe range. The Blizzard team will probably make some changes to Doomfist’s Power Block, and Meteor Strike moves in Season 2, given his declining appeal.
Overwatch 2 currently has a limited map pool where players can only play some maps within a fixed time. Maps like Rialto have been removed, but the developers have not addressed why a fan-favorite like Numbani is missing from the game.
A Competitive Mode bug placed players lower than expected. However, this issue was resolved in the recent patch update, so players’ placement should now be closer to their rank. Players can also customize settings in case the game feels “floaty” compared to the original Overwatch.
Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
About Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.
Overwatch 2 was launched as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022.
