Overlord: What was the eye in Shalltear’s armor? What did Aura do?

In the last arc in season 1 of the Overlord anime, we watch as Ainz Ooal Gown fights Shalltear Bloodfallen in an attempt to kill her and undo the mind-control spell put on her. During this battle, a certain scene towards the end really confused many viewers.

After Ainz disarms his armor to prepare the super-tier spell ‘Fallen Down’, Shalltear tries to use this moment and rushes in to attack him.

However, she fails to attack him and is taken aback by a mysterious eye that suddenly appears in her Blood Valkyrie armor.

Ainz then takes out an hourglass to complete the spell and is able to finally kill off the mind-controlled Shalltear.

In this article, we explain what was the eye in Shalltear’s armor and what Aura did during the battle between Shalltear and Ainz.

What was the eye in Shalltear’s armor?

The eye in Shalltear Bloodfallen’s armor was one of Aura’s distraction abilities. Aura used this to distract Shalltear during her battle with Lord Ainz so that he could complete his final spell and finish off the brainwashed vampire once and for all.

Aura Bella Fiora is a dark elf and one of the Floor Guardians of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. She is the twin sister of Mare Bello Fiore.

Aura may not be the strongest fighter among the floor guardians, but she has many other skills and abilities that make up for that.

Although she is most known for using her beast-taming skills, she also regularly makes use of her other abilities in combat.

In this battle, Aura uses one of her abilities to distract Shalltear, giving Ainz just enough time to complete his spellcasting.

What did Aura do during the battle?

Aura creates a menacing eye in the armor of Shalltear Bloodfallen to distract her so that Lord Ainz can prepare his final attack. Aura uses a skill that allows her to project aggro at a distance to create the eye. This is one of the skills from her Ranger skillset.

Aggro or aggravation is the amount of hate values generated by NPCs who get attacked in YGGDRASIL.

Aura used the distraction ability since Ainz hesitated to use the hourglass for a moment when Shalltear was about to attack him. Thanks to this, Ainz is able to complete the spell and defeat Shalltear.

In her final moments, Shalltear accepts defeat and utters the word “Chibi”, a nickname she always calls Aura, hinting that even under mind-control, she was aware that it was Aura’s distraction that helped Lord Ainz win.

Although the eye in the armor is not properly explained in the anime, it is clarified in the Overlord Light Novel that it was indeed Aura’s doing.

What happens after the battle?

After Shalltear disintegrates, we switch to Aura and Mare, who are watching the battle from a distance.

Aura talks about how stupid Shalltear was to get mind-controlled even though she was undead.

Mare asks his sister Aura if she did anything, but she denies getting involved in the battle, saying it was Ainz’s complete victory.

After the battle, Ainz resurrects Shalltear in her original state. He had to spend 500 million gold from the Nazarick treasury in order to do this.

Aura and the other guardians get Shalltear up to speed on the recent happenings and scold her for causing Ainz so much trouble.

Ainz enjoys the bonding moment but is concerned about the enemies who put Shalltear under the spell and prepares to strengthen Nazarick.
