Overlord is one of Japan’s most famous dark fantasies based on the light novel series of the same name. The series is written by Kugane Maruyama and illustrated by so-bin and has 13 published volumes so far.
Maruyama stated that he planned for 17 volumes if the series gained enough popularity.
And don’t words come true, Overlord has sold over 7 million copies in print and has earned devotion and praise from the audience.
The fans are waiting eagerly for the promised fourth installment after Season 3 ended. The show has a huge fan base, mostly due to its unique plot and freshness.
Similar to Sword Art Online, it’s about the protagonist getting stuck inside a game indefinitely. Momonga goes with the flow and accepts his role as Ainz and creates havoc in the New World.
Season 3 ended with Ainz establishing his own country, and dropped a message stating, ‘And the story goes on,’ making things obvious that there’s a Season 4 in the making.
Though the CGI in the last battle of Season 3 was depressing and disappointing, it didn’t decrease the show’s popularity by one bit. In fact, fans are hopeful to see a better version in the next season!
But it’s been two years since Season 3 released, and there’s suspicious silence from the producers. Fans are now worried and asking whether a sequel see the light or not?
1. Season 4 Premiere Date
Overlord Season 4 is expected to premiere in Winter 2021. Producers have confirmed Season 4 of the show.
At AnimmagiC 2019 in Germany, the scriptwriter for the anime discussed Season 4 and stated that it was extremely likely to happen.
Our guests of honor from the Overlord panel confirmed Season 4, but no further information is available.
English Translation, Twitter Translate
Later in April 2021 an official tweet was released confirming that Overlord season 4 is definitely going come to TV screens and also confirmed of an anime movie for the anime.
The title and content of the movie have not been confirmed yet.
It is safe to assume it would run for 13 episodes like its predecessors. With the animation studio adapting three volumes for each season into 13-episodes, it is highly likely. But with the two-part story in volumes 12 and 13, it could be divided into two cours.
With this, we can conclude that Season 4 would release by either late 2021 or get pushed into 2022. The scriptwriter has confirmed that there would be a sequel, so we can be sure that the series won’t be concluded without this season.
Any plans to renew the show must have been interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. With so many projects at a standstill, the release might have shut down the production of Season 4. But fans are now anticipating a release for next year.
Madhouse produced the cool animation for the show. The studio is notorious for not making sequels but somehow stuck with Overlord. The studio has created Hunter x Hunter, Death Note, One Outs, and many other wonders.
Madhouse has been adapting three volumes each season, so logically, Season 4 would cover volumes 10-12. This would include Ainz’s plans for his new kingdom.
The official sites have not released any teasers for the anime yet. We will update this article when we get the information.
2. Expected Plot
Season 3 finished with the Nobles giving up on E-Rantel and the founding of the Sorcerous Kingdom under Ainz. With Pandora’s Actor playing the act of the City’s representative, humans are rallied into the kingdom.
Now, Season 4 will adapt the next three volumes, which explain Ainz’s plans for this kingdom.
After his coronation, Ainz decided to turn his Sorcerous Kingdom into a utopia for all races to thrive. As the first step, Ainz tries to strengthen the Adventurer’s Guild in the Empire to nurture good adventurers for his beck and call.
Meanwhile, all the other rulers of various countries start planning against this Sorcerous Kingdom to take down Ainz. How will Ainz influence this new world?

Ainz goes undercover to E-Rantel to learn more about the Adventure Guilds but is discovered by Nfirea, who gets kidnapped by Clementine.
Ainz crushes her to pieces, and Shalltear, one of the strongest NPCs in the game, enters Nazarick.

Cocytus emerges the victor from the battle against the lizard tribe with the help of undead forces.
Meanwhile, in Re-Estize, Sebas takes care of a human girl without Ainz’s knowledge. The girl is later revealed to be someone need by the Eight Fingers Syndicate.
Sebas gets compromised in his mission and meets up with Climb and Brain. They apprehend members of Eight Fingers, and in revenge, Six Arms is tasked to kill them.

Lupusregina protects the village from the troll and informs Ainz about the dinner invitation from Nazarick.
Meanwhile, Workers take on a mission to uncover an underground tomb for money. But they get teleported to the Floor Arena as invaders and get killed by Ainz.
The notices of their deaths are sent to the ruler of Baharuth Empire, who extends a hand of friendship with Ainz and Nazarick, while secretly setting up a war against them.
Ainz establishes the Sorcerous Kingdom of Nazarick and goes to war against the nobles.
Ainz alone demolishes 70,000 of the opposition army to summon the Dark Young.
Ainz sends a warning to Brain and calls off the Dark Young as respect to Gazef and gets crowned as the Sorcerer King.
