Over 5000 Players Banned from Final Fantasy 14 for Using Real Money

Money, money, money, is not so funny, in Square Enix’s world.

On March 4th, the Japanese developers announced a ban on 5815 Final Fantasy 14 players for using or advertising real money in-game. Instead of using Gil, the game’s ‘official’ currency, these players were caught using real money which is known to throw the game’s economy way off.

While 5037 players had their accounts terminated for being a part of Real Money Transactions (RMT), 814 players were banned for advertising them. It may seem like an extreme move on Enix’s end but it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone; FF14’s  Terms of Service specifically prohibit using real money for in-game trades. So, anything to do with bringing in real money into the game is bound to get you served with a ban notice.

In their announcement, Square Enix also cautioned other players from being involved in such transactions.

“We will continue to take stringent disciplinary action against any accounts with confirmed involvement in RMT/illicit activity; players should take care to steer clear of any activity that violates the Terms of Service.”

On a lighter note, Square Enix revealed a whole set of new developments for Final Fantasy last month including an all-new expansion to FF14 titled ‘Endwalker’. Android and iOS players also received their share of good news with the unveiling of Final Fantasy 7: The First Soldier and Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis.

Square Enix also made Final Fantasy 7 Remake available for free on PS Plus this month, potentially admitting millions of new players into the Final Fantasy Universe completely free of charge. The Remake is also set to receive a PS5 upgrade later this year.
