Outriders Beats Peak Player Count of Marvel’s Avengers on Launch Day

After a tremendously successful demo launch, the full version of Outriders launched across all platforms yesterday and suffice to say, the game is already making waves.

According to Steam DB, the game by Polish developers People Can Fly crossed the 1,00,000 concurrent user mark within a mere two hours of release. In light of the demo hitting 2 million downloads, publisher Square Enix had said that they expect even more users to jump on the Outriders bandwagon once the full version launched and clearly, they were right on the money.

This milestone already puts Outriders in the Top-10 of Steam’s Most Played games right now leaving behind titles like GTA 5 and Rocket League. Which means it is also far, far ahead of another Square Enix release: Marvel’s Avengers.

Avengers’ largest player count on Steam – 31,165 players – was recorded on the second day after the game launched. The title has since lagged quite behind in that respect even after it saw additional content releases. At the time of writing, there are only 898 players logged into the game while Outriders is being enjoyed by a crazy 340347,930 players.

A major contributor to Outrider’s success could be the scale of its release. PC gamers had the chance to experience the demo for a whole month before the game dropped in full. Additionally, the game is also currently live on Xbox Game Pass for no extra charge with and is available for PS4/5 as well. People Can Fly also released several patches for the demo itself so clearly they were well-prepared for a huge influx of players.

This is much unlike the launch of Marvel’s Avengers which opened, mid-pandemic, to lacklustre reviews and buggy performance which led to some pretty dissatisfied gamers.

Another factor that is bound to work in Outriders’ favour is that it’s multiplayer is joined by a full-fledged 35-40 hour story. People Can Fly have also promised that the game will remain free of microtransactions and will see DLC releases in the near future.
