Steam has listed its top-selling games for the week that ended on April 11, and it looks like Valheim’s brilliant streak has finally come to an end. Outriders and It Takes Two have maintained their first and second place spots respectively while the entry of two new Xbox Game Studio releases – Forza Horizon 4 and Sea of Thieves – have relegated Valheim to No. 7
After a brief issue with its servers, Outriders has gone on to become a viral hit, clocking over 1,20,000 concurrent users within days of its release. This was preceded by a tremendously successful demo launch that saw 2 million downloads in only one week.
However, not all is hunky-dory with the People can Fly looter-shooter: the game has drawn criticism for its fair share of bugs, crashes, and matchmaking issues that were brought on primarily by server overload. Additionally, Outriders has also seen a dip in viewers on Twitch and a stall in concurrent user count. So, it’s quite plausible that the game’s reign on Steam charts will be short lived.
On No. 2 of the charts is EA Original It Takes Two; a title that’s currently enjoying its third week on the list. Developed by Hazelight Studios, the adventure-platformer has maintained a consistent level of popularity since its release in March with daily players climbing from just a few thousand to nearly 20,000. From a review perspective, the game has done pretty well which should explain the game’s long stay on the top-seller list.
Most of the titles that follow our top two are currently on sale. Three of them are Xbox Game Studio titles – Forza Horizon 4 at No. 3, Sea of Thieves on No. 4, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection on No. 6 – and sandwiched between them is the uber-popular RPG Horizon: Zero Dawn which is available at an impressive 40% discount.
With Outriders having a sort of bumpy ride at the moment, it’s going to be interesting to see if the game is able to hold to its position on the charts. It Takes Two, on the other hand, seems stable enough but then again it’s all about sales consistency which is a challenge for any game that is not an insanely popular viral hit.
About Outriders
Developed by People Can Fly, Outriders is a co-op third-person shooter RPG. It allows for both single-player and multiplayer gameplay.
Outriders will take you to an alien planet called Enoch that humanity is trying to colonize as Earth is no longer sustainable. The human civilization goes to space to look around for a mysterious signal that can help mankind survive.
However, such efforts go off track because the expedition team faced “The Anomaly” Storm. After it ends, you wake up with remarkable abilities and survey those corners of Enoch where danger lurks.
