Though Outlander season 7 is still in production, it has already been renewed for season 8, and it will be its last season.
Having first premiered in 2014, Outlander features a nurse from the World War II era who is reunited with her husband, Frank. They get transported back in time after touching a magical stone in Scotland and end up in 1743.
Starring Caitriona Balfe as nurse Claire Randall, and Sam Heughan as a Scottish soldier, the show is based on books written by Diana Gabaldon.
According to Variety, Starz has renewed the show for season 8, and it will be its last. This confirmation comes just a few months before season 7’s premiere.
Starz previously announced the filming of Outlander’s prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, though the release date hasn’t been confirmed yet.

What do we know about Outlander season 8?
The news of season 8 comes very early in the show’s timeline, with season 7 still in production. Production of season 7 began just after season 6 premiered in March 2022.
The eight-episode season 6 was greatly delayed because of the COVID fiasco. Thus, season 7 will be significantly expanded and will have 16 episodes.
Season 7 is based on the novel, An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon. She is also confirmed to be involved in the production of the prequel series.
Outlander season 8 will see the conclusion of Jamie and Claire’s love story. Executive producers Ronald D. Moore, Matthew B. Roberts, and Maril Davis are all set to return for season 8, which will feature a grand and bittersweet ending to the entire saga.
The season 6 finale saw Claire waiting for her trial in Wilmington’s jail. The Brown crew failed to get rid of Jamie despite trying their best to separate him and Claire.
The plot of season 7 is still in the unclear, making it difficult to speculate the ending.
