Keeping up its streak of renewals for 2020, Netflix has pinned down the ‘breaking’ YA drama Outer Banks for a second season.
The first part of the series made its premiere in April this year and has been termed a “breakout” season by the streaming giant.
However, like other streaming platforms, Netflix doesn’t release detailed viewing figures for most of its programs. But the pickup does come about three months after its April premiere. However, the show was definitely received well.
The show was termed a nostalgia-bait with a teen drama that blends ‘Goonies’ and ‘The O.C.’ with a coastal setting.
Set on the barrier islands of North Carolina, Outer Banks is all about the life and drama of the coasts. It follows a group of ragtag friends who call themselves the Pogues.
After a hurricane kills the island’s power for the summer, a series of peculiar events set off and force the friends to make life-altering decisions.
Search for a missing father, forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, and the escalating conflict between the Pogues and their rivals on the island – the summer is soon filled mystery and adventure.
Josh and Jonas Pate along with Shannon Burke have created the series and will be returning as the executive producers and showrunners for season two.
Cast members Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Austin North, Drew Starkey, Deion Smith and Charles Esten are all set to return as well.
Outer Banks joins a slate of recent Netflix renewals that includes Sweet Magnolias, Mindy Kaling’s Never Have I Ever, After Life, Gentefied and Kenya Barris’ #BlackAF.
