2. Key Visual & Illustration
The key visual shows Bojji sitting on the throne in his underwear wearing a cape while Kage droops down the stairs.
The key visual below gives off a Studio Ghibli vibe with the cute, warm, and welcoming picture cover. We see Bojji and Kage at the center. The corners are decorated, making it look like a cover page for a book.
One can see the magic mirror at the top right and random placement of weapons, animals, and home decor utilized as the border. All these elements stand as hints to the plotline.
The above illustration gives us a glimpse of the kingdom. At the top of the wall, we see Bojji and Kage standing with their bodies facing towards the palace.
We also see weapons on the ground, indicating that a war has been fought. This illustration is likely to portray the fight that Bojji won to become the greatest king in the world.
3. Trailer
The trailer begins with Bojji meeting Kage, a former assassin shadow who can understand him despite his disability. He is then seen crying secretly after being publicly mocked by the people. Fortunately, he does seem to find help from various people later on.
We can also see glimpses of the fantasy setting with shadow ghosts, magic, and devils amidst the emotions. The PV also previews the ending theme for the series “Oz” by Yama.
4. Plot/Storyline
Ranking of Kings revolves around the life of Bojji, the first prince of the kingdom ruled by King Boss, who is ranked number seven in the ranking of kings.
Bojji was born deaf and was so powerless that he couldn’t even swing a sword. In consequence, his retainers and the public look down upon him as entirely unfit to be the king.
It is then that Bojji finds his first friend, Kage. His fateful encounter with Kage ignites a tiny spark of courage, and Bojji decides to fulfill his dream of becoming the world’s greatest king. With this, their lives both take a dramatic turn as they face obstacles together.

9. Conclusion
The upcoming series, Ousama Ranking, looks promising with a warm-hearted animation, the underdog prince, “Bojji,” and his friend Kage.
I’m curious to know what kind of impact Kage has on Bojji’s life. Why does Kage choose Bojji? Will they be able to overcome the adversities of the world and their circumstances to fulfill their dreams?
10. About Ousama Ranking
Ōsama Ranking (Ranking of Kings) is a Japanese comedy manga series by Sōsuke Tōka. It has been serialized online via Echoes’ user-submitted Manga Hack website since May 2017. An anime television series adaptation by Wit Studio premiered in October 2021.
The story centers around Bojji, a deaf, powerless prince who cannot even wield a children’s sword. As the firstborn son, he strives hard and dreams of becoming the world’s greatest king.
However, people mutter about him behind his back as “a good-for-nothing prince” and “no way he can be king.” Bojji is able to make his first-ever friend, Kage, a literal shadow on the ground who somehow understands Bojji well.
The story follows Bojji’s coming-of-age as he meets various people in his life, starting with his fateful encounter with Kage.
