The Miko of the Takamimi Shrine deals with the struggles of a shut-in goddess in episode 1 of Otaku Elf titled “The Elf of Tokyo.”
Elda, an immortal elf, is assigned as the goddess of the Takamimi Shrine, where she stays inside all day, every day. With a promise made to a past friend, she protects the town of Tokyo while gaming all night and drinking red bull.
Koito, an innocent high school girl, is assigned the task of Miko and is the caretaker for Elda. All her child-like needs and annoying habits nearly push her over the edge, but she must continue to overcome them.

1. Episode 2 Speculation:
The lady in white, revealed to be Elda, will completely shift the worldview of Koito and may either be for the better of their relationship or add even more spice to the conflict.
The next episode will likely bring Koito to get Elda to come outside the shrine once more and visit some elders who continue to give her offerings. However, she may need to conceal her ears as they are now a part of her insecurity after the incident 60 years ago.

Episode 2 of Otaku Elf will be released on Friday, April 14, 2023. It is a weekly anime, and new episodes are released every Friday.

3. Recap of Episode 1:
Koito, the 15th Miko of the Takamimi Shrine, calls out to Miko as she opens the door to the elf, Eldali, who immediately asks for a red-bull to make up for an entire night gaming and watching anime.
Elda is the goddess enshrined here, and Koito is assigned to be her Miko and realizes how hopeless she truly is; a completely shut-in lazy slouch. Koito asks Elda not to keep using the magic spell that allows her to transfer thoughts, but she says she is too embarrassed to yell otherwise.
The purification prayer starts as Elda sits up on the shrine, VR headset in hand, and finds all her dreams come true. Back in school, Koito rants about how much pain it is to deal with Elda, entirely unlike the traditional stereotypes of elves since she’s too used to civilization now.
Koito talks about the lady in white, someone who helped her when she was just a kid, and she idolized her ever since but was never able to meet her again. She runs into many people around the city who give their offerings to Elda as gratitude for always being around for them.
Elda eats her food with a big grin as Koito wonders why she won’t visit all the others. After a fun night, she builds a robot figurine when a visitor arrives outside the shrine, the cook behind all her meals over the last few days, Koyuzu.
Koito asks Elda about her immortality, which lets her look youthful even at the age of over 400 years as well as the reason behind her social recluse. Sixty years ago, she was traumatized when her ears were joked about by some man on the street, and she has never forgiven him until now and refuses to get out of her room.
Koito asks her to visit all the people giving her offerings, and she refuses as the fight escalates to the point she storms out of the shrine. She recalls the day she met the lady in white when she was crying as a kid, but the lady came to her and consoled her.
As she sits by herself, Elda comes running to her, filled with anxiety about being outside but wanting Koito to return with her. The world continues changing, but Elda will continue to watch over the city as she needs to hold up a promise from the past.
As they talk about the last time she went outside, Elda reveals that the true lady in white was her after all this time. Her over-the-top fantasy is wholly brought down to a wreck of an elf.
4. About Otaku Elf
The Otaku Elf (Edomae Elf) manga by Akihiko Higuchi was launched in Kodansha’s Shounen Magazine Edge in 2019. As of June 2022, it has been collected into six volumes. An anime adaptation for the series is set to arrive in spring 2023.
In the Takamimi Shrine resides an immortal elf who loves games. So, when the new high priestess, Koito, enters the shrine, she realizes that Elda has no interest in blessing people and simply wants to play all day long. The series follows the duo as Koito tries her best to make Elda perform her duties.
