Chapter 158 of Oshi no Ko ended at quite the cliffhanger that made fans quiver in worry and excitement simultaneously. The final panel of the chapter featured Ruby getting stabbed by an unknown person, in almost the same way Ai was stabbed at the beginning of the series.
Is Oshi no Ko going to push another tragedy onto us fans? Now that Ruby has grown so much as an idol that she’s at par with Ai, are haters out to take her life as well? Let’s see what Aka Akasaka has cooked for the next chapter of Oshi no Ko.
Is Ruby Dead?
The previous chapter of Oshi no Ko ended with a horrific visual of Ruby getting stabbed when an unknown person knocked on her door. In chapter 159, we see Nino’s knife buried in Ruby’s abdomen while she apologizes, telling her that she must never surpass Ai.
While Nino went on her spiel on how Ai should always be the greatest; otherwise, all her efforts would go to waste, we got to see Ruby fight back, and suddenly, Saitou Ichigo appeared from behind and restrained her.
This was when it was revealed that Ruby was in fact Akane, who dressed up as Ruby with a knife-proof vest on. Meanwhile, Ruby is all safe and sound, preparing for her next concert elsewhere. Nino greeted her former president since she was caught in the act and had nothing much to say anymore.
Nino’s Sad Past
Saitou asked Ninon whether she was trying to exact revenge on Ai. He mentioned that he knew her boyfriend, who used to be her fan, later became crazy for Ai. Nino denied this and said she had already forgiven her boyfriend, Ryousuke. She explained that at that point, Ai was such a huge idol that it would be surprising if Ryousuke didn’t like her.
She goes on to say that Ryousuke even killed himself right after just because she asked him to. Her point was Ai had stolen everything from her, making her far from a normal girl.
Of course, this explanation doesn’t make sense, and it can’t be sympathised with either. After this, Akane told Nino that, according to Ruby, Ai actually wanted to be normal friends with Nino. On hearing this, Nino cried and said she wanted the same too.
Aqua Confronts Hikaru
The scene gets switched to Ruby’s concert, which was executed flawlessly. We even got to see Kana being emotional in between the concert as she was going to leave the idol group.
After this, we saw Hikaru Kamiki watching the live stream of the concert. When he asked Aqua to join him, Aqua said he was trying to find a way to save Hikaru as per Ai’s wishes, however, it seemed as if all of that may be a lost cause.
He then went on to call Hikaru a huge liar, saying he spews countless lies in order to save himself. On hearing all of this, Hikaru turns around and acts dumb about all this.
What Happened in Chapter 158?
Chapter 158 of Oshi no Ko started with a scene where Akane payed a visit to Ruby. They had a mundane conversation about Kana and how she might be really cut out for being an idol. Ruby then asks Akane if she found a new boyfriend to spend her Christmas with.
After this, the scene changes to Christmas day, when Ruby was in her final performance of the day. We got to see Nino between the audience watching Ruby as she shone on the stage. It’s pretty apparent that Nino had some delusions that made her think that Ai’s death is what preserved her brilliance as an idol.
When she saw Ruby shine on the stage, the thought that Ruby was on the path to surpassing Ai frightened her. Hence, she decided to take matters into her own hands and showed up at Ruby’s home that night and stabbed her.
When Will Chapter 160 Release?
Oshi no Ko will be on break next week. Hence, we can expect the next chapter to be released on the 12th of September.
Oshi no Ko can be read on its official websites like Shonen Jump and MangaPlus(by Shueisha).
