Be it Historia Reiss of Attack on Titan or Prince Canute of Vinland Saga, Wit Studio has always been exceptional in portraying character development when it comes to the throne’s heir.
The fan-favorite anime studio is back with another story of an underdog prince, Bojji, who is too weak to wield a children’s sword.
However, Osama Ranking (or King’s Ranking) anime isn’t anything like Wit Studio’s other dark and intense works that made it so popular.
In fact, the anime is pretty light-hearted and it blends adventure, fantasy, and child-like wonder in a way that you may even mistake it for a Studio Ghibli work.
The official website for Ousama Ranking manga announced its anime adaptation with a promo video. The series will premiere in October 2021.
The promo takes us to the cheerful childhood days of Bojji, where he is playing around with his friend, Kage (shadow), a literal shadow-like creature who is a survivor of the Kage assassin clan.
However, Bojji’s life isn’t as happy as it looks. Life becomes hard when you have the prince’s responsibility on your shoulders, even more so when you are deaf and powerless like Bojji.
Wit Studio is trying a unique style of animation that they haven’t tried before. The cast and staff details behind this project have already been revealed. It includes some of the industry’s popular names.

The anime will follow the journey of Prince Bojji, who dreams of becoming the world’s greatest king. Being a weak and underpowered prince in a world where success is snatched through brute force, life is a challenging journey for Bojji.
Thankfully, he isn’t alone in this quest. He has a shadow named Kage as his friend, who surprisingly understands him the best.
Anime protagonists like Naruto and Luffy have proved over the years that no dream is far-fetched if you are determined enough. Can Bojji follow the same footsteps and make a mark in the pages of anime’s history?
About Ousama Ranking
Ōsama Ranking (Ranking of Kings) is a Japanese comedy manga series by Sōsuke Tōka. It has been serialized online via Echoes’ user-submitted Manga Hack website since May 2017. An anime television series adaptation by Wit Studio premiered in October 2021.
The story centers around Bojji, a deaf, powerless prince who cannot even wield a children’s sword. As the firstborn son, he strives hard and dreams of becoming the world’s greatest king.
However, people mutter about him behind his back as “a good-for-nothing prince” and “no way he can be king.” Bojji is able to make his first-ever friend, Kage, a literal shadow on the ground who somehow understands Bojji well.
The story follows Bojji’s coming-of-age as he meets various people in his life, starting with his fateful encounter with Kage.
