My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU is a high school anime but without the typical heart-fluttering moments. The protagonist, Hachiman, is a realist through and through and is not moved by romantic concepts.
Oregairu received its first anime adaptation in 2013, and it was soon followed by two more seasons.
Season 3 of the anime debuted its first episode on 9th July, and it is an ongoing anime.
In a recent interview of Wataru Watari (author of Oregairu) by Megami Magazine (October 2020 issue), he commented on his expectations from the anime and what fans can expect from it.
The interviewer specifically asked whether the anime has any ‘fanservice’ planned despite its serious nature.
Watari responded by saying that it is a known fact to fans who have read the original light novel that the concept doesn’t really have any fanservice.
However, if the viewer gets immersed in the story, then he/she might be able to understand the “feels” behind every touch and action of the characters.
In one particular episode of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax, Hachiman and Tamanawa will start an impromptu rap battle, and it will serve as a breather for the viewers.
However, scenes like swimsuit scenes or unexpected romantic scenes aren’t inserted, so the anime overall doesn’t have any fanservice to speak of.
When recounting his experience with the anime’s recording and production, he said that even though there was a huge gap amongst the season productions, the staff and cast got along very well, and work progressed as smoothly as ever.
Rather than picking a favorite scene of his choice, Watari prefers that the fans will watch the anime and come up with scenes that they think have struck close to their hearts. The anime is rich in details and there is more than one well-conducted scene.
About Oregairu
Written by Wataru Watari and illustrated by Ponkan8, this story was adapted into a manga thrice. It was picked up for an animated adaptation by Brain’s Base. It was still, however, animated by Feel Studio in its second season.
This anime is from the slice of life genre and features the story of a pragmatic, high schooler Hachiman Hikigaya.
He is forced to be a part of a Service Club by his teacher alongside Yukino Yukinoshita and Yui Yuigahama. Despite having wildly different personalities and beliefs, they offer help to those in need.
