I. After A Long Time, Hayato
Episode 2, titled “That Key was Never Handed Until Today,” begins with Hayato approaching Hachiman at the vending machine, telling him he’s heard about what happened.
It must’ve been hard for Hachiman. Hachiman thinks he is talking about his sister’s entrance exam, so Hayato asked him to congratulate her too, but Hachiman refuses and thanks to him as he is happy to hear that.
They get back to what happened with Yukinoshita, and Hachiman is reminded of that night of confrontation between Yukinoshita and her older sister.
II. Haruno & Yukino
Inside their apartment, Yukinoshita offers tea to her friends while Haruno enjoys a glass of wine.
Yukinoshita begins to talk to Haruno about what happened between them and what will happen, Haruno becomes indecisive about wanting to hear about their mother but urges Yukinoshita to continue.
Yukinoshita wants to go back home and talk to her mother about it; even if she doesn’t get what she wants, she does not wish to have any regrets.
Hachiman admires her determined smile for a moment, and Haruno finally gets her answer. She tells Yukinoshita as she is so sure she’ll help her with their mother.
However, she warns her little sister that if she goes back there, she won’t be able to come back for a while. Yuigahama offers to help her pack and spend the night as a sleepover.
Hachiman runs into Haruo, who has been waiting for him to leave. They walk down the snow-covered street and discuss Yukinoshita’s decision.
III. Yuigahama’s Melancholy
Yuigahama and Hachiman walk to their club room with an air of nervousness after finishing classes. They find the door locked, so Hachiman heads to the staff room to get the key.
He runs into Hiratsuka sensei, who tells him Yukinoshita took the key, and he has to make the trip to the club room again. They have tea and Yukinoshita thanks them for the other day.
With a knock on the door, Iroha enters the room, sets up a small projector, and watches a drama.
Iroha had to view it as a reference because she has to arrange the thank-you party after graduation, and she wants to turn it to prom.
Her ulterior motive is for Hayato to be prom king and herself the queen! But Yukinoshita insists on finding out why Iroha is persistent about holding the prom when she has two years left for graduation.
After hearing her conviction, Yukinoshita accepts her request to help.
Back at her house, Yuigahama thinks back to when she discovered a picture of Yukinoshita and Hachiman hidden behind a stuffed toy in Yukinoshita’s room.
She had realized it a long time ago, the place she couldn’t invade. She tells herself to forget about it, that’s why she wasn’t searching for anything genuine from the beginning.
