The trailer for Only Murders in the Building season 3 is out now. Our three beloved musketeers, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel are back with another “homicide” in the wildest season yet. Season 3 premieres on August 8 only on Hulu.
The Hulu crime-comedy focuses on three strangers from different backgrounds who share a passion for true crime dramas. The three come together to solve a murder that takes place in a high-society apartment where they all live.
Only Murders in the Building features an ensemble cast with Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez leading the star cast as in the two previous seasons. Season 3 will feature several other prominent names in the star cast, including Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd.
The series has received immense critical acclaim for its first two seasons. Each season focuses on a different murder mystery, and season 3 is no different. In season 3, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel come together to solve a murder in the theater circle.
The recently released trailer begins with season 2’s cliffhanger, where an actor falls dead on stage during the performance of Oliver’s play. The three musketeers then come together in the trailer to solve the murder. Season 3 revolves around the murder of Paul Rudd’s character. Check out the trailer here-
The trailer introduces Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) as he falls dead on stage while performing. His death is followed by flashbacks where we see the actors preparing for their respective roles, delivering lines, and how the three detectives keep an eye on potential suspects.
The primary suspects of the trio are also teased in the trailer. Meryl Streep plays Loretta Dunkin, one of the actors who is part of Oliver’s play. She is seen delivering quite an entertaining table read in the trailer.
We also meet a Broadway star called Kimber. Ashley Park of Emily in Paris fame is set to play the character, who is teased as another primary suspect. Jesse Williams will also feature in seasn 3 as a documentarian interested in the case at hand in season 3.
Season 3 seems a little different from the two previous seasons, as the trio seems to be exploring a closed mystery this time. In the last two seasons, new characters were introduced in later episodes, so the trio did not have a fixed number of suspects.
However, like a classic whodunnit, in this season, the trio knows that the murderer is one of the people from the cast. It is clearly mentioned in the trailer that the murderer is “in this room.” So, the murderer seems to be one of the members of the cast and crew of the play.
Such murder mysteries are quite popular. Many of Agatha Christie’s well-known mysteries focus on such closed whodunnits with a limited number of suspects. Moreover, the trope of an actor falling dead on stage is also quite common.
However, Only Murders in the Building is not your regular murder mystery. The series is known for its unique approach to true crime and its signature comic element. Such elements have benefitted the previous two seasons quite a lot.
