Only Murders in the Building ended another season with a bang as the trio, Charles, Oliver, and Mabel found the killer of Bunny Folger. There were multiple suspects, beginning with Nina Lin and Alice and ending with the famous podcaster—Cinda Canning. So who exactly was the murderer of Bunny, and how was she caught?
Poppy White, Cinda Canning’s assistant, is Bunny Folger’s killer. She was set up by Mabel, who staged a murder mystery party, at the end of which Cinda praised Mabel. Seeing this, Poppy felt jealous and, in her rage, confessed to her crimes.
Before discussing the murder and the ending, let us look back at the overall season. Like Season 1, multiple things were happening, and the chaos was intentional. However, Season 2 seemed more profound and dramatic. The latter was almost intentionally over the top to give the Agatha Christie vibes a little satirical/comedic twist.
In the previous season, the murderer was first seen in Episode 2 when Jan and Charles bump into each other in the elevator. However, in Season 2, Poppy first appeared only in Episode 6, and very soon, we found out that she wasn’t happy in her current job with Cinda Canning.
While Cinda was the superstar in the world of podcasts that everyone wanted to work with, Poppy White was the one who did the grunt work and made her podcasts truly solid. However, she didn’t get any appreciation for the same.
Even when Poppy asks Cinda for a raise, considering how much she’s worked on Mabel’s story, Cinda brushes her away. These kinds of problems led her to kill Bunny Folger.
Poppy White had been living a mundane life until, one day, she decided to run away from it. So, she changed her identity and started working with Cinda Canning, hoping to accomplish greatness. However, she didn’t gain anything after all her efforts because everyone celebrated only Cinda and she didn’t get any acknowledgment.
So, Poppy White decided to murder Bunny after hearing about the murder at the Arconia and how Mabel, along with Charles and Oliver, had solved it. However, when she murdered Bunny, she didn’t know Mabel would enter the apartment, which complicated things for her.
After this, it becomes a game of cat and mouse where Poppy is simply trying to frame different people for her own crimes, but the protagonists couldn’t be fooled so easily. In fact, Mabel notices the tiff between Poppy and Cinda.
This gets the wheels of her mind churning, and she brews something extraordinary. In the finale, she stages a murder mystery party where they try to catch the real killer. She first accuses Cinda Canning of Bunny’s murder. After all, the podcasters had thought it could’ve been her.
She would’ve wanted to eliminate her biggest competition and, as a result, decided to murder a person in the Arconia and pin it on the podcasters. However, Cinda refutes any such claims. Mabel then points the finger at Alice, who confesses to the crime after some persuasion.
The Arconians tie Alice up and wait for the police to show up. Meanwhile, Cinda Canning goes up to Mabel and appreciates how she found the murderer, going so far as to offer her a job and a solo podcast. Little did Poppy know that all this was a setup. Hearing Cinda say all of the things to Mabel that she had been dying to hear herself, Poppy gets enraged and confesses to her crimes. In the end, it becomes clear why and how she murdered Bunny Folger.
Overall, Season 2 was a treat to watch. The show has been renewed for Season 3, and the last few minutes of Season 2 have already teased who the murder victim will be. It is Paul Rudd’s character, and sadly, we won’t get to see more of him in the next installment. Not alive, at least. We hopefully will see him aplenty in the flashbacks that OMITB does so well.
However, I can’t wait to go on the roller-coaster of trying to find out who the murderer is, suspecting almost everybody but the real murderer, and then being shocked by the truth at the end. So, you know, regular OMITB fun.
