We all know how much of a hype One Piece chapters have been causing these days. But with the end of the War, we can finally concentrate on the side arcs that have not be getting the attention they deserve.
Cover stories in One Piece, though sometimes overlooked, contain interesting supplemental stories that are as canonical as the main story.
The current cover story, “Germa 66’s Ahh… An Emotionless Excursion”, is certainly one of the more engaging ones we’ve seen, akin to classics like “Ace’s Great Blackbeard Search” and “Enel’s Great Space Operations.”
“Germa 66’s Ahh… An Emotionless Excursion” is the 25th cover arc that began on the cover page of chapter 1035.
It chronologically takes place after the Germa 66 is detained in Totto Land during the Whole Cake Island arc.
The Germa Kingdom manages to break out of the clutches of the Big Mom Pirates, but 2 of the Vinsmoke siblings, Niji and Yonji are captured.
According to the latest cover story, “Germa’s Escape” on chapter 1051, the Germa escape safely from Whole Cake Island. Ichiji and Reiju show up to save Niji and Yonji and the 4 Germa 66 co-commanders/siblings walk out of Chocolat Town, leaving it in flames.
Germa 66’s Ahh… An Emotionless Excursion: Explained
There are currently 13 volumes of the Germa 66’s adventure, spanning chapters 1035 through 1051.
The cover story begins with the Germa Kingdom avoiding the cannon attack by the Big Mom Pirates.
The Germa 66 military supreme commander, Vinsmoke Judge, and the 2 Vinsmoke co-commanders Reiju and Ichiji escape. Niji and Yonji, the other 2 siblings, are captured by Charlotte Mont-d’Or.
Charlotte “The Scribe” Mont-d’Or is Big Mom’s 30th child and the Minister of Cheese governing over Cheese Land. His Paramecia-type Book-Book Devil Fruit allows him to control books and trap living being inside of them.
In chapter 1038’s cover story, we see Niji and Yonji trapped inside a huge book. The book is put on display in Cacao Island so all the citizens can look at the prisoners.
The two siblings think hopelessly about how easily the powerful Big Mom was able to defeat them. She is a creature beyond the power of science, and the Germa have no means of destroying her despite being so technologically advanced.
Charlotte Pudding, who is in love with Vinsmoke Sanji, arrives and punches the imprisoned Vinsmoke siblings for bullying Sanji – which is quite sweet.
After Pudding leaves, Charlotte Oven arrives, and takes the giant book with him. With the help of Charlotte Brulee’s Devil Fruit abilities, they enter an alternate dimension called Mirro-World to move around Totto Land, and arrive at Whole Cake Island.
We see the Whole Cake Chateau completely destroyed in the background. Over hands over the book to Kato, Brownie, Prim, and Anana, who want to dissect the Vinsmoke siblings to learn more about their artificial genetic enhancements.
In chapter 1046’s cover story, we see 2 silhouettes entering Pudding’s home – Chocolat Town.
There was a lot of speculation of who these 2 could be – some people thought it was Blackbeard making his entry and trying to invade Whole Cake while Big Mom was away. But after all the speculation, it was just Ichiji and Reiju.
The next volume reveals Brulee conveying to the Sweet Commander Cracker, that she thinks Ichiji and Reiju are in Chocolat Town. All the townspeople flee and only the Choco Police remain.
Meanwhile, the giant book that imprisoned the siblings catches on fire. There is no explanation given about how or why the book burned up.
We know from chapter 852 that burning the book frees the prisoners. Jinbe burned the book that Luffy and Nami had been captured in.
Ichiji and Reiju appear at the same time to rescue Niji and Yonji. There’s a showdown between the Vinsmoke siblings and the Charlotte siblings.
The entire facility goes up in flames and all 4 Vinsmoke siblings emerge victorious, making their exit from Chocolat Town.
Is the Germa 66 cover story arc over?
No, “Germa 66’s Ahh… An Emotionless Excursion” is not over yet and is to be continued. The following cover stories will likely show what caused the fire that allowed Germa to escape Whole Cake Island.
The Germa 66 cover story will most probably come to a close along with the end of the Wano Country arc.
Who are the Germa 66?
Germa 66 aka the Warmongers, make up the military wing of the Germa Kingdom. Germa 66 is also an underwater seafaring mercenary force, commanded by the ruling Vinsmoke family.
The Germa Kingdom is a former nation under the World Government, ruling over the North Blue.
They came to form a temporary alliance with Big Mom but after she revealed her treachery, all ties were broken.
The World Government also cut contact with them because of their attempt to ally themselves with the Yonko.
The Germa Kingdom is the Kingdom of Science, and consequently the Germa 66 uses technologically advanced military weapons.
The 4 Vinsmoke co-commanders: Reiju, Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji, along with Sanji, possess genetically engineered enhancements to aid them in their battle. They are the only 5 modified humans known in the One Piece universe.
Now with Germa 66’s safe escape from Whole Cake Island, along with the fall of Big Mom, the Germa Empire will try and reconquer North Blue and rebuild their empire.
