One Piece Manga Reveals Beginning Of Gekko Moria & Kaido’s Rivalry

Gekko Moria was introduced as the main antagonist in the Thriller Bark arc. He was previously a part of the Royal Shichibukai and was the owner of the Kage Kage no Mi (Shadow Devil Fruit), which let him give life to an inanimate object by impairing a living person. During the arc, his rivalry with Kaido, one of the Yonkou, was revealed.

Chapter 969, titled “Fool of a Lord,” showed us the beginning of Kaido and Gekko Moria’s rivalry. The battle happened one year after Roger’s execution. The panel shows no scar on Kaido’s body, confirming that Kozuki Oden was the only one to wound Kaido so far.

During this battle, Gekko Moria’s crew was obliterated, and he held a grudge against Kaido till the present storyline. With Gekko Moria now in contact with Blackbeard, and Blackbeard on the hunt for the ultimate devil fruits for his crew, a team-up between them to steal Kaido’s fruit would make sense to the story.

As it would give Kaido the death he longs for, Gekko Moria his revenge and Blackbeard another significant power-up.

With the battle of Onigashima coming to the manga soon, Eiichiro Oda will most likely explore Kaido’s past and make readers sympathize with him. It will be interesting to see how he will handle an ending to the arc that doesn’t disappoint fans(Well, he never disappoints, does he?).
