Shanks’ daughter might seem unbelievable and unexpected to many, but One Piece Film: Red breaking the U.S. box office isn’t.
As predicted, the film made a strong start in North America with its debut and is ready to break records this time. The movie made it to the top 10 highest-grossing anime films in Japan and is planning to take the top spot in the U.S. too.
‘One Piece Film: Red’ earned a whopping US$4.7 million on its opening day in North America. According to sources, the film narrowly beat DC’s ‘Black Adam’ and grabbed the #1 spot on Friday.
The ‘One Piece Film: Red’ made its U.S. debut on November 4, 2022, in over 2,367 theaters, with preview screenings a day before. Opening day earnings consist of the preview screenings’ US$1,696,124 and the official debut’s US$3,103,701, making it a total of US$4,799,825.
Its release was a big deal overseas as the promotions began in October with the film’s viral Times Square Takeover. Through this, One Piece reiterated its place as one of the greatest anime ever made and how much it’s loved worldwide.
The video will give you chills as fans gather and cheer in Times Square while witnessing this historical moment. Fair warning, this video will have you down with major FOMO and even get you teared up when they show some of the most memorable scenes from the anime.
It ends with the crowd chanting One Piece that echoes through the city.
Coming to the story, we all know how we have Shanks’ daughter in it, which means the captain of the Red Hair Pirates will be a key character. Given Shanks’ importance in the anime, it’s sad how less he appears in the story but has a surprisingly huge fan following.
Being one of the series’ most epic and beloved characters, Shanks’ presence alone makes this film iconic.
I feel that One Piece might surpass Mugen Train to become the highest-grossing anime film worldwide.
Even if it can’t, it will definitely come close to it and give other films a run for their money.
