With the latest trailer for One Piece Film Red, the franchise just dropped a bombshell on fans. The movie’s plot and protagonist were under the wraps for a long time, but I’m sure you will be left open-mouthed after this revelation.
One Piece Film Red is the 15th movie of the franchise, and it will premiere in Japan on August 6, 2022. The film had teased a new female character, Uta, when it was first announced, but no one knew who she was until now.
Before we discuss the jaw-dropping identity of Uta, why don’t you watch the trailer for yourself first?
As revealed in the video, Uta is actually Shanks’ daughter. At the very beginning of the teaser, he says to her, “though we’re apart, you’ll always be my daughter.”
Even after 1000+ published chapters of One Piece, Shanks remains to be a mysterious character. Now, suddenly it appears that he has a daughter? So, is Uta a protagonist or an antagonist?
The 46-second teaser packs a lot of tears, which makes me question how emotional the movie might turn out to be.
Eiichiro Oda is not only supervising the project but also serving as its executive producer, so there’s no doubt the movie will have the capacity to overwhelm us.
The last One Piece movie debuted in August 2019 and reached US theaters in October. Funimation is sure to license this film as well, so international fans might have to wait until fall 2022 to watch One Piece Film Red.
