Chapter 983 ended with Luffy running into Ulti riding Page One. It is unlikely that the entirety of the next chapter will show just their confrontation, but it will be interesting to see how Luffy handles this situation.

I. Luffy & Ulti

Luffy has the ability to turn enemies into allies. He seems to whip out friendships and loyalty out of nowhere, just by being himself.

Given that Ulti is already upset with Kaido, and has quite an erratic personality, Luffy may unknowingly sway Ulti (and Page One) to their side.

All the Tobi Roppo are currently searching for Yamato, Kaido’s son. It is likely that Yamato will be found in the coming few chapters and brought to Kaido. It will be very exciting to see what Oda has in store for us when it comes to Kaido’s family.

III. Kaido’s Big Announcement

During chapter 980, Kaido’s assistant, a Flying Squirrel smile user, reminded Kaido of an important announcement he needs to make. Kaido says that everyone needs to wait before he announces it otherwise people will get confused.

Shortly before the Reverie arc, Oda mentioned a “Lurking Legend” in an interview. While he may have been talking about Emu-sama, it is possible that he meant Rox, the captain of the Rox pirates.

With Kaido and Big Mom’s new alliance the announcement likely has something to do with Rox and the return of the Rox pirates. In my opinion, nothing except the return of their former captain can bring these two Yonko together.

The chapter starts with Kaido and Orochi enjoying the feast and getting drunk. Kanjuro arrives with a beat-up Momonosuke and notifies Orochi that the samurai are on their way to Onigashima.

Fukurokujo comes in and informs that there is nothing to worry about, as their entire force is on the island, and the only people on the island so far are four supernovas. The scene ends with Orochi starting arrangements for Momonosuke’s public execution.

Nekomamushi’s team gets in contact with Inuarashi’s team and decides to meet up with them at the North point of Onigashima. Marco’s message to Luffy is revealed to be –

“I might be late, but I’ll be there.”

The Southern forces run into Sasaki, but as the forces are led by Denjiro, Sasaki doesn’t know that they are enemies and gets tricked and tied up.

Back near the Eastern forces, Chopper and Usopp are being chased by Big Mom, who they recently shot. As they run away, the rest of the forces try to escape but run into Prometheus.

The chapter ends with Luffy running into Page One and Ulti as he tries to escape towards Kaido’s keep.

Chapter 981’s cover continues the Gang Bege’s OH MY FAMILY cover story. It shows Lola, Gotti, Capone, and Chiffon running away from the marine attack.

This will force them off Dressrosa so they can finally meet their father, who is with some Tontattas returning to Dressroas.
