Marco “The Phoenix” made his first appearance in the Wano arc last week. Along with Nekomamushi and Izo, Marco finally made it to Wano. During his last appearance in the manga, he asked Nekomamushi to deliver a message to Luffy as he had to stay back and defend Whitebeard’s hometown.
Raw scans of Chapter 982 were released a few days ago. They reveal what Marco’s message to Luffy was. It was simply,
“I might be late, but I’ll be there”
in a rather anti-climactic turn of events.
The first thought that comes to my mind is – “that’s it?” When Marco gave that message to Nekomamushi, people were intrigued and speculated about what it could be.
Could it be invaluable information about Blackbeard’s powers as Marco fought him during the payback war? Could it be related to Ace? Or could it be intel about the Will of D.?
As it turns out – none of these.
Chapter 982 also revealed that despite Marco, Nekomamushi and Izo coming to Wano at the same time, they did not come together. This makes it probable that Marco had assurance about Whitebeard’s hometown’s safety before he decided to come.
Regardless, the headline for now is – MARCO IS IN WANO. His contributions to the war will be immense. Not only because of his OP devil fruit but also because of his experience as a pirate.
Let us wait and see what the upcoming chapter has in store for us.
