One Piece Chapter 973 Confirms Lady Toki Dying & Taking Many Secrets To The Grave!

One Piece recently released chapter 973, titled “The Kozuki Clan,” which wraps up many plot points about the Wano-arc.

This chapter most likely is the last chapter regarding the Kozuki Oden flashback.

This implies that One Piece will continue the storyline in the present timeline, starting chapter 974, which will be released on 15th March.

The chapter confirms the fact that Lady Toki, in-fact, dies 20 years before the present timeline.

Due to Lady Toki’s unique devil fruit, it was ambiguous if she had made a time-jump to the future or not. However, chapter 973 shows us her death scene, putting an end to that ambiguity.

Lady Toki, Kozuki Oden’s wife, was introduced to us during Oden’s flashback. He met her during his adventure with Whitebeard.

After Oden saves from some miscreants, she reveals that she was born 800 years prior to the present and that she had been using her devil fruit powers to jump to the future whenever her life was in danger.

She soon married Oden and had two kids with him – Momonosuke and Hiyori. She had to cut her adventure short as she was sick. However, she did not let Oden give up his dream of exploring the world.

She stayed in Wano, taking care of the family and building up his reputation while he ventured on with Gol D. Roger in his journey to find the One Piece and becoming the Pirate King.

Upon Oden’s return, she supported Oden despite the tense situation created by Orochi and Kaido. To the end, she stayed faithful to his goal to open up Wano’s borders.

In order to ensure that the future will be secure in the hands of whoever comes to Wano 20 years later, she sent Momonosuke along with Kin’emon and Kanjuro to the future to lend them a helping hand.

Even when Oden was about to be executed, she refused to be his weakness by mourning his capture. Instead, she helped Oden pass down his legacy to the entirety of Wano. Shortly after she sent Momonosuke to the future, she rode to Kuri, where she said:

“YOU ARE THE MOON, UNAWARE OF THE DAWN… MAY YOUR PURPOSE BE FULFILLED… AND CAST NINE SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT WOVEN OF 20 YEARS… AND YOU SHALL KNOW THE BRILLIANCE OF DAWN”

These legendary words have been in the hearts of the citizens of Kuri since then. These words helped ignite the fire of the revolution against Kaido’s tyrannical rule.

After this, one of Kaido’s henchmen is seen shooting her down, confirming her death.
