One Piece recently released the 970th chapter of the series, titled “Oden Vs. Kaido.” This chapter shows Oden’s defeat against the Beast pirates in the battle that took place 20 years prior to the present timeline.

Apparently, there is a spy amongst Oden’s forces, as suggested by Kaido and confirmed by a panel, which shows Ashura Doji being stabbed in the back by a silhouette.
After taking down weaker members with his Haoshoku Haki, he goes straight for Kaido’s head and manages to give Kaido his infamous scar. Right before Oden is about to cut off Kaido’s head, Kurozumi Higurashi uses her Mane Mane no Mi powers to transform into Momonosuke; this distracts Oden for a split second and Kaido uses this opportunity to strike Oden down with his metal kanabo.
Oden and the Nine Red Scabbards are taken prisoner and sentenced to death – by being boiled alive.

Chapter 970’s cover continues the Gang Bege’s OH MY FAMILY cover story, showcasing Bege and Vito pursuing Chiffon; however, they are slowed down by residents of Dressrosa who are trying to kiss them.
